• Monday to Thursday Nightshift

Position Summary

The Welder Helper provides entry‑level support to the welding department under the direction of certified Journeyperson. This role focuses on performing housekeeping, material handling and basic preparatory tasks to support safe operations, improve workflow efficiency and maximize the productivity of welding personnel.

RolesandResponsibilities

• Assist Journeyperson Welders, Apprentice Welders, Lead Hands and Supervisors with daily welding and fabrication activities in a safe and efficient manner.

• Perform shop housekeeping and material preparation tasks to support workflow efficiency and maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment.

• Safely operate basic cutting equipment, including cutting saws and approved small hand‑held tools, following training and established procedures.

• Inspect, cleanand perform basic maintenance on small tools andequipment,report malfunctions or safety concerns promptly to the Lead Hand or Supervisor.

• Assist with inventory control activities, including identifying, handling and staging materials in accordance with company procedures.

• Load and unload raw materials, components and finished products for production or shipment using approved manual handling techniques.

• Assist with inspecting large equipment and work areas to ensure proper operating condition; report defects or issues to supervision.

• Identify and report unsafe conditions, practices or procedures and follow all safety instructions and corrective actions.

• Participate and adhere to shop hygiene, housekeeping and 5S Program.

• May assist with material handling using forklifts or overhead cranes, subject to appropriate training and authorization.

• Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.

• Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Knowledge, SkillsandAbilities

• Basic awareness of welding and fabrication shop environments and manufacturing workflows.

• Fundamental understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, including hazard recognition, PPE use and safe work practices.

• General knowledge of common hand tools, power tools and basic shop equipment used in welding and fabrication environments.

• Ability to identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions or quality concerns.

• Knowledge of proper housekeeping and material handling practices.

• Ability to work effectively under direct supervision and apply feedback to improve skills and performance.

• Introductory awareness of materials handling processes and inventory control principles.

• Understanding of the importance of housekeeping, organization and 5S practices in a manufacturing setting.

• Demonstratedability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure production environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships.

Education and Work Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Completion of, or enrollment in,aweldingpre‑apprenticeship, trade readiness or related technical training programisconsidered an asset.

• Willingness and eligibility to register as an ApprenticeWelderwith Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) when qualified.

• Introductory knowledge ofweldingtools, materials and equipment used inmanufacturing environmentsis an asset.

• Experience adhering to safe work practices, procedures and manufacturing processes from raw material intake through to finished product.

• Previous work experience in an industrial, commercial or manufacturing environment is preferred.

Working Conditions

• Required to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperaturesand other production‑relatedhazards.

• Required to useappropriatepersonal protective equipment(PPE)to prevent exposure to hazardous materialsand excessive noise levels in the workplace.

• Must have the physicalability to lift and carry materials weighing up to35lbs.

• Must have theability to stand for extended periodsthroughout each shift.

• Manual dexterityisrequired to effectively operate tools and equipment.

• Overtime may be available occasionally with work volume.
