Job description

The Office of the Integrity Commissioner strives to encourage a culture of integrity and accountability. The Office is seeking a Team Lead, Municipal Integrity to carry out and coordinate the Integrity Commissioner’s new responsibilities under the Municipal Act, 2001 and the City of Toronto Act, 2006. This is a new vacancy.

What You Will Do

  • Perform and coordinate the main responsibilities to support the Commissioner’s duties in relation to municipal integrity commissioners and municipal accountability.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the responsibilities of the Municipal Integrity mandate, including the process for receiving a recommendation from a municipal integrity commissioner that the seat of a member of council or of a local board be declared vacant.
  • Receive and analyze inquiries received from municipal integrity commissioners, municipal officials and members of the public. In doing so, ensure that adequate information is provided, and internal records are maintained appropriately to track the life cycle of the matter. Conduct research and draft correspondence for these matters for approval by the Deputy Commissioner or Commissioner as appropriate.
  • Lead the work to establish a repository of decisions, reports and legal research related to municipal integrity matters. This would include drafting summaries and preparing briefing and background materials on various sub-topics related to the mandate.
  • Identify training topics to develop and deliver content for training sessions for municipal integrity commissioners in coordination with communications and legal staff.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of an inquiries officer on all aspects of work, including information gathering, analysis and preparation of draft correspondence and briefing materials.

How You Will Qualify

  • Completion of university degree or equivalent experience, with knowledge of spelling, grammar, non‑standard documentation and subject knowledge at the level required to draft non‑routine correspondence and reports, as well as to edit for content and accuracy.
  • A good understanding of the applicable legislation for all mandate areas within the jurisdiction of the Integrity Commissioner.
  • A good understanding of policy development, including the ability to draft clear procedures.
  • Excellent analytical skills are required to assist in the preparation of accurate and formative reports, highlighting points of interest, and discrepancies in policy.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills are required to coordinate and track a wide variety of assignments and activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required to formulate and communicate recommended policy interpretations and opinions.

Here’s what awaits you

  • A dynamic, unique work environment
  • A team of dedicated professionals
  • A comprehensive benefit and pension package including a comprehensive short term sickness plan and personal days
  • Support for your career through training and development
  • Access to an employee and family assistance program

The Office of the Integrity Commissioner embraces diversity and as an equal opportunity employer is committed to creating an inclusive workplace while establishing a diversified qualified workforce. If you require accommodation in order to participate in the recruitment process, please email your contact information to hr@ola.org for follow-up.

While we appreciate your interest in obtaining employment with the Office of the Integrity Commissioner, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
