We bring diverse backgrounds, skills, and expertise and create a caring culture where everyone can thrive. Through teamwork and collaboration, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Stantec every day.

Your Opportunity

The Employee Communications Team Lead will develop and implement communications strategies that reach the hearts and minds of our people through meaningful communication experiences that inspire action and support our long-term business strategy.

In this role, you’ll lead key communications work that connects our people to one another—and to our purpose—so they clearly understand how their work brings Stantec’s Strategic Plan and brand to life every day. Working with leaders, subject matter experts, and business partners, you will introduce and influence new practices that eventuate to successful outcomes for the organization.

You’ll be part of a newly established team within Employee Communications focused on operational communications within North America and will help shape the future of this function. This is a dynamic, multifaceted role that partners closely with our business operating units, regional organization, and leaders across Canada and the United States. You’ll bring your creativity, authenticity, and strategic thinking to your work, while also helping influence best practices and improve how we communicate at scale. You lead by example and demonstrate exceptional relationship management skills and accountability.

This role thrives in a fast‑paced, complex environment where priorities can shift quickly. It calls for strong initiative, sound judgment, efficiency, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate sensitive information with care.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of communication professionals, providing coaching, direction, performance feedback, and support to foster engagement, growth, and high performance.
  • Manage partnerships and relationships across the business, specifically within our North Amer, to align practices to successful outcomes.
  • Create compelling content across channels, including email, intranet articles, blogs, and video briefs, adapting messages for different audiences and formats.
  • Build a deep understanding of audience needs and operational priorities, including language considerations, to deliver targeted and effective communications.
  • Lead the planning, delivery, and ongoing management of newsletters, town halls, and other key communication moments.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with leaders and internal partners to enable clear, effective, and timely communications.
  • Mentor team members and interns, demonstrating both knowledge and expertise.
  • Identify and shape key issues and messages by gathering, analyzing, and integrating information from multiple and sometimes competing sources.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, and support processes that drive consistency and efficiency when it comes to communications across our North America operations.
  • Communicate with purpose to inform, engage, build alignment, and support meaningful behavior change.
  • Confidently manage multiple priorities, assessing urgency and impact while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of communications across channels, using insights to inform future decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with the rest of our marketing, communications, and public relations organization, including our graphic design and video teams, digital teams responsible for our intranet content, leadership and functional communications team and others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail‑oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills
  • Ability to communicate with partners of all levels
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing environments
  • Excellent collaboration and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to work with a team, as well as independently and with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated proficiency with web‑based tools and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working within another large organization is considered an asset.
