Reporting to the Manager Data & Analytics the Data Science Fellow will research and prototype AI-powered solutions that streamline public health workflows with technical direction from the Principal Data Scientist. Focus will be placed on Computer Using Agents (CUA) using software agents to operate user interfaces to automate tasks where APIs are unavailable and Document AI using machine learning techniques to convert unstructured documents (PDFs images forms) into structured actionable data.

Areas of Responsibility:
Designing and prototyping AI components for tasks such as vaccinerecord parsing or reportabledisease document triage.
Evaluating multiple technical approaches (e.g. Optical Character Recognition and Natural Language Processing pipelines lightweight User Interface automation agents) and compare accuracy cost and governance impacts.
Integrating prototypes into existing data pipelines document code decisions and test results in GitHub.
Engaging program staff to gather requirements demo solutions and incorporate feedback.
Applying responsibleAI principles including; privacyfirst data handling bias checks and clear audit trails.
Producing concise documentation and presentations for technical and nontechnical audiences.

Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Requirements:

Masters of Science (completed) or PhD (in progress) in Statistics ComputerScience DataScience SoftwareEngineering Mathematics or related fieldresearch based programs preferred.
Strong Python skills for data analysis and Machine Learning comfortable reading scientific literature and translating it into code.
Familiar with machine learning concepts (classification Natural Language Processing or computer vision).
Proficient in Git/GitHub workflow (branches pull requests code review).
Strong written and verbal communication.
Ability to explain complex ideas simply.
Coursework or certification in AI ethics / governance is preferred.
Prior work with document processing User Interface automation or Large Language Model based agents is preferred.
Public sector or health data exposure is preferred.
A personal data science portfolio site or GitHub repo showcasing relevant projects is preferred.
