Position: Team Supervisor Training & Resource Development

Reports to: Executive Director

Direct Reports: 3 staff

Term: Full-time Permanent



Context

Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy (Oahas) is an Indigenous-led organization committed to promoting and supporting healthy thriving Indigenous communities through providing culturally grounded education and access to harm reduction to reduce the transmission of HIV and other STBBIs in our communities. Oahas operates based on the principles of Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA) Meaningful Engagement of People living with HIV/AIDS (MEPA) nothing about us without us Indigenous harm reduction and respect for our cultural knowledges and teachings. These foundational principles guide all aspects of our relationships and work.

Summary

Working as part of a provincial team this position will be leading theTraining & Resource Development Team which was first established in April 2024. The Team Supervisor will ensure that training and resource design and development
activities and
services are being implemented in a way that aligns with the organizations vision mission strategic plan and annual operational plan goals. With guidance and support from the Oahas Senior Management Team the Team Supervisor is expected to manage the Training and Resource Development team matters. We anticipate an approximate time breakdown as follows:


  • 30% of the time is spent on staff supervision providing guidance coaching inspiring educating

  • 20% of the time is spent on delivering education and training activities internally and externally
  • 20% of time is spent managing overall Training and Resource Design and Development strategy design and implementation
  • 15% of the time on administration including planning finances timesheets internal meetings and reporting;

  • 15% of the time engaging community through social media in-person events and partnership meetings

Guided by a strengths-based multidisciplinary approach rooted in the Oahas values this position will work closely with Indigenous communities to be responsive to their needs and interests as it relates to developing resources and tools primarily for Indigenous harm reduction and HIV & HCV prevention education access to testing and treatment linkage to care and educational information related to other STIs. This position is expected to actively engage with community members volunteers staff Elders and Knowledge Carriers and partnering agencies to strengthen the health and well-being of Indigenous people who use drugs or are living with or at risk of acquiring HIV and HCV. This role has financial and budgeting responsibilities. Regular travel is required along with some evening and weekend work.

This position is located in Sudbury Ontario and reports directly to the Executive Director with the following areas of key responsibilities: People Leadership & Supervision Training & Resource Planning Development and Design Education Service Delivery Community Engagement & Social Media Management Research & Program Evaluation Finance & Administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Oahas management staff and community (e.g. Community Advisory Committee or other community groups) on developing strategies for knowledge mobilization projects and activities that strengthen Oahas programs and services.
  • Collaborate with teams and community to lead the design and development of visual information including resources campaigns presentations and training materials and other graphic assets. The expectation is that this information will be depicted in a way that is engaging aligns with the organizations brand centers learner accessibility needs relevant to Indigenous audiences and support the principles of Indigenous harm reduction Two-Spirit cultural safety diversity and inclusion.
  • Provide design and development leadership and lead knowledge and skill building within the team in order to increase the whole teams capacity.

People Leadership & Supervision

  • Strengthen and support the development of healthy team dynamics and ensure there is a balanced approach taken when scheduling team development and delivery activities.
  • Ensure staff and teams work effectively and efficiently towards meeting annual planning goals tied to the Oahas operational plan and strategic plan. Support staff with the development of annual program work plans.
  • Manage supervision of the team members including supporting hiring processes assigning work responsibilities providing orientation training and ongoing coaching support and performance evaluations of all team members.
  • Participate in team and management discussions aimed at strengthening training and knowledge mobilization services. Including attending regular management meetings.
  • Create an environment among staff team(s) that promotes trust open communication creative and analytical thinking and a collaborative team effort.
  • Build collaboration and trust communicate effectively resolve problems and respond to the concerns raised by staff community members and volunteers as it relates to the position.

Training & Resource Planning Development and Design

  • Lead and collaborate on the development of new materials including: resources info graphics campaigns and trainings related to Indigenous peoples and STBBIs and harm reduction.
  • Support the Training and Resource Development Team in developing digital content and activities interactive training components and evaluation tools that are rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing being and doing.
  • Collaborate with Oahas Senior Management Team to build organizational capacity for creating and maintaining a social enterprise program.
  • Collaborate with Oahas Senior Management in developing tools that support agency operations and staff capacity building.


Education Service Delivery

  • Supervise collaborate and work alongside the Training and Resource Development team to co-facilitate capacity building workshops and professional development trainings with organizations primarily within the ASO and Indigenous services sectors. The focus of the workshops is to reduce barriers for Indigenous people and support cultural safety in service delivery reduce stigma and increase awareness of the harms of colonialism including the impacts of harmful drug policies and inequity related to social determinants of health for Indigenous peoples.
  • Develop contacts and networks to procure new clients for Oahas training services.
  • Supervise and support the integration of new Oahas trainings into e-learning platform opportunities as needed.
  • Act as a co-facilitator and critical backup for education service delivery as needed.


Community Engagement & Social Media Management

  • Create an empowering environment that celebrates the diversity and visibility of Indigenous peoples living with HIV (IPHAs) Indigenous people who have received a Hep C diagnosis and Indigenous people who use drugs (IPWUDs) as well as Two-Spirit Indigiqueer and Indigenous LGBT folx.
  • Engage with community connected to Oahas (e.g. Community Advisory Committee Knowledge Carriers Network etc.) to gather feedback on trainings campaigns and resources in development and ensure that feedback is implemented as appropriate for the organization.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of content updates and communication materials on Oahas website and social media channels.
  • Supervise the Training and Resource Development Teams engagement with online community through Oahas social media platforms ensuring that Oahas values are represented in communications and that direct reports maintain healthy boundaries.

Research & Program Evaluation

  • Ensure the maintenance of training materials to reflect evolving needs including updating/creating materials based on sector and community trends technology updates and socio-political climate.
  • Supervise the development evaluation and modification of adult education models frameworks and workshops to ensure the goals of the program are achieved and the needs of those requesting training are met.
  • Access up to date local research and culturally grounded resources to inform the content of training and workshops.
  • Supervise and support the development of engaging interactive digital learning solutions that ensure established learning and performance objectives are met.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in learning and performance consulting including knowledge of best practices and emerging trends.
  • Develop training evaluation tools to assess the quality effectiveness and impact of training services and products. Review training program delivery methods and products; lead the development and support the implementation of strategies to improve overall design delivery content development for new products as well as assess and revise pre-existing educational and presentation materials.
  • Support the development of agency-wide internal standards for training including auditing existing training delivered across the agency.

Finances & Administration

  • With support from the Director Finance the Team Supervisor will oversee the management of the fee-for-service model of training delivery.
  • Oversee the management of Oahas current Two-Spirit Safer Spaces Training on kajabi.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Training & Resource Development Team including maintaining active communication with teammates for a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Lead the development of team workplans contribute to program budget management and monitor expenses; review and submit team expense requests keeping within the Oahas policies and procedures.
  • Provide back-up to other members of the management team as required.
  • Ongoing program reporting data collection file maintenance and records management including completing OCHART database entries.
  • Provide leadership and direction for Board or staff committees or reports when required.
  • Ongoing compliance with Oahas policies and procedures is a requirement for this job.
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Management.

Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications

  • Masterful organizational communication and leadership skills demonstrated by previous professional success 5 years experience in similar role preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills including demonstrated ability to lead coach and motivate staff.
  • Lived Experience; Experience working with people living with HIV and/or people who use drugs and other substances and Indigenous communities.
  • Experience working directly within the ASO sector including community-based social services health or cultural services understanding of harm reduction principles is an asset
  • Competency and good understanding of Indigenous cultures and ways teachings and history. Ideally you are someone well along on your personal learning journey.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain organizational and administrative tools and practices. Excellent organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact diplomacy and respect when communicating with Indigenous communities other agencies and external contacts.
  • Commitment to social justice diversity equity decolonization and anti-oppression principles.
  • Ability to work outside regular working hours as required and regular travel throughout the region will be required which may include evening and weekends.
  • Valid Ontario G drivers license is required.
  • A diploma or degree in a relevant field and/or a combination of related experience would be an asset.
