The Opportunity

As our next Data Advisor you will play an important role in advancing CAEHs data and analytics capacity to strengthen community local homelessness information management systems to measurably prevent and reduce homelessness across Canada.

You will contribute to building a unified national data infrastructure that serves to understand the scale and impact of homelessness in Canada and help communities translate that data into action.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meaningful work strong collaboration and solving complex challenges in a fast-moving environment. You will have the opportunity to influence projects improve systems contribute to organizational growth and help shape the future of CAEH as we continue to evolve.

This is a one-year contract position. Secondments will be considered.

A Note on HIFIS Expertise

Deep hands-on expertise in the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) is preferred for this role. You will be the go-to resource for communities navigating the transition to the Canadian Methodology troubleshooting HIFIS implementation building local data capacity and helping communities understand and act on their Communities Outcome Report data. Candidates without demonstrated HIFIS experience will still be considered.

What Youll Do

In This Role you will provide:

HIFIS Implementation and Community Transition Support

• Serve as CAEHs subject matter expert on the Homelessness Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) - supporting communities in implementation configuration troubleshooting and ongoing use.

• Guide communities through the transition to the Canadian Methodology ensuring HIFIS data practices align with national standards.

• Support communities in generating interpreting and acting on Community Outcomes Reports (COR) to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

• Conduct assessments of community data capacity and HIFIS readiness identify gaps and co-develop improvement plans.

• Deliver training coaching and hands-on support to community partners on HIFIS data entry quality and reporting.

Data Infrastructure and Analysis

• Support integration of community HIFIS data into CAEHs national data infrastructure to enable cross-jurisdictional insights.

• Synthesize community-level data into national trends that inform CAEHs advocacy strategy and service offerings.

• Produce dashboards and visualizations that communicate data insights to stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy.

• Contribute to the design of scalable CAEH data products and services.

Performance Management Support

• Establish clear performance metrics and evaluation frameworks that track progress internally and across the sector.

• Create test and refine data tools such as performance management trackers run charts projection tools and dashboards.

• Monitor data quality and governance practices to ensure accuracy and reliability in reporting and analysis.

Collaboration and Knowledge Mobilization

• Act as a bridge between community data systems and CAEHs national infrastructure ensuring alignment standardization and reciprocity.

• Engage with local provincial and federal stakeholders on data management practices and the Canadian Methodology transition.

• Prepare and present analytical reports and findings at national forums workshops and conferences.

• Contribute to educational materials that promote data literacy among communities working to end homelessness.

Were Looking For Someone Who Has:

• Technical proficiency in SQL and programming skills in Python or R for data manipulation and automation.

• Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with HIFIS including implementation support configuration training and troubleshooting.

• Working knowledge of the Canadian Methodology for measuring homelessness and the Community Outcomes Report (COR) framework.

• Experience supporting communities or organizations through system transitions.

• Experience working with APIs for data integration and interoperability including pulling transforming and automating data flows between various data systems.

• University degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent post-secondary education and/or experience.

• Strong organizational and project management capabilities

• The ability to work independently in a remote environment

• Sound judgment initiative and problem-solving skills

• Comfort working in evolving fast-paced environments

• A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous learning

Required Certifications (or Equivalent Experience)

• Microsoft certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate (or equivalent)

• Advanced SQL proficiency including complex query development data transformation and performance optimization

• Certified Data Management Professional (or equivalent education and experience)

• Certification in statistical analysis and programming such as Python or R (or equivalent education and experience)

Assets & Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in homelessness housing or community systems work

• Experience in nonprofit public sector consulting or social enterprise environments

• Experience facilitating coaching advising or delivering services

• Experience applying equity anti-oppression decolonizing or systems change approaches

• Bilingualism (English/French)

• Lived expertise related to homelessness or housing precarity
