Position Summary

Project Manager, Planning and Redevelopment

North York General (NYG) is embarking on the largest redevelopment and expansion in its history. With a new Long-term Care Development and a New Patient Care Tower (NPCT) – the first healthcare Alliance project in Ontario – and many other strategic redevelopment priorities, NYG is transforming healthcare delivery for our patients, families and community.

This position will primarily support the New Patient Care Tower project, with a focus on clinical planning, stakeholder engagement and operational readiness activities required to advance this major development. You will be working closely with the Manager, Project Delivery – Clinical (Clinical Lead) and the broader Alliance team. Your goal in this position is to support the translation of clinical priorities, models of care, workflows, user requirements and operational considerations into project inputs throughout the planning, design, implementation and transition phases of the project. You will work with clinical and operational stakeholders, hospital leadership, consultants, contractors and other project partners to support timely decision-making, maintain project documentation, coordinate user engagement and ensure clinical requirements are understood and advanced through the project process.

A key focus of the role will be supporting clinical stakeholder meetings, documenting decisions and action items, identifying workflow and operational impacts, and helping ensure that the project remains aligned with the needs of patients, families, staff and physicians. Strong organizational, time-management, and negotiation skills are an asset. You also have excellent verbal and written communication skills. In response to an evolving project landscape, candidates should have the ability to multi-task, deal with change, coordinate resources, and have attention to detail.

This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

• Support the NPCT Manager, Project Delivery – Clinical (Clinical Lead) in advancing clinical planning, stakeholder engagement, and operational readiness activities for the NPCT project and direct the work of project teams (hospital staff, consultants and contractors) through the project lifecycle in accordance with hospital requirements.
• Work closely with clinical and operational stakeholders to translate clinical priorities, models of care, user requirements and workflow considerations into project inputs, decisions and deliverables.
• Work with internal stakeholders and Alliance partners to support the safe and successful design and implementation of the New Patient Care Tower project, with consideration for clinical and operational needs, infection prevention and control, phasing and other applicable codes, standards and legislation.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including clinical and operational teams, and maintain regular communication with project leadership on deliverables, risks and issues.
• Manage scope, budget and schedule, including financial reporting.
• Support review and assessment of clinical requirements implications and operational planning on project delivery.
• Support project close- out and post-occupancy evaluation, including performance measures, stakeholder feedback and lessons learned.
• Assist as required in the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and Request for Tender (RFT) documents for project related services.
• Ensure project deliverables are met on time, within budget, scope and according to contractual obligations and hospital policies.
• Prepare regular reporting on project scope, costs and schedule throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the consultants and the hospital in seeking Municipal and Ministry of Health (MOH) project approval.
• Undertake the responsibility to make timely decisions and maintain schedule and budgets
• Work with the support of other hospital staff to ensure that the contractor is fulfilling their contractual obligations to abide by all hospitals policies, including Infection Prevention and Control.
• Provide leadership and guidance to the project team during all stages of the project lifecycle.
• Conduct and attend project team meetings (Steering Committee, Project Working Groups)
• Develop, track, and maintain project documentation during all stages of the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in architecture, engineering, or construction management, or equivalent experience in clinical planning or hospital operations.
• Project Management Professional designation or equivalent experience.
