Opportunity

Shape the durability, performance, and sustainability of critical transportation infrastructure across Western Canada. As a Senior Pavement / Surfacing Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering innovative, cost‑effective pavement solutions while contributing to some of the region’s most impactful infrastructure projects. Working alongside experts in a collaborative and high‑performing environment, you will help strengthen WSP’s reputation as a leader in pavement engineering.

Your Impact

  • Deliver pavement designs and technical reports that support safe, efficient, and long‑lasting transportation infrastructure across Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Contribute to pavement engineering projects, ensuring high‑quality technical delivery aligned with client and regulatory expectations.
  • Analyse pavement performance data and apply methodologies such as AASHTO 1993 and Mechanistic‑Empirical Design to inform design decisions.
  • Plan and execute pavement investigations, including condition surveys and interpretation of FWD, IRI, rutting, and lifecycle data.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to prepare proposals and support the pursuit of new project opportunities.
  • Mentor junior team members, contributing to capability development and fostering technical excellence within the pavement team.
  • Strengthen client relationships while supporting business growth across public and private sector infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate field investigations including coring, borehole logging, and material sampling to inform design and rehabilitation strategies.

Skills That Set You Apart

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation (APEGA or Engineers & Geoscientists BC).
  • 10+ years of experience in pavement engineering, pavement management, or related infrastructure fields.
  • Strong expertise in pavement design principles across flexible, rigid, composite, and gravel pavement structures.
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as AASHTO 1993, Pavement ME, StreetPave, and SpectraPave.
  • Experience with pavement performance assessment, including both destructive and non‑destructive testing methods.
  • Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and Alberta Transportation standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, and deliver high‑quality technical reports.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and work in a fast‑paced, collaborative consulting environment.
