Job description

Who we are At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation.

Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society.

Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick.

Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse.

Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments.

Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access.

Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities. At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need Reporting to the Manager, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, we are hiring a Student Conduct Specialist to join our team.

As our new Student Conduct Specialist, you will play a key role in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment by supporting the fair resolution of non-academic student conduct matters.

You will guide students through complex and often sensitive situations, applying university policies with fairness, objectivity, and compassion while balancing student support with procedural integrity.

Working collaboratively across the University, you will contribute to a culture where community standards, student rights, and accountability are upheld with consistency and care.

This is a full-time hybrid role based at our BC campus, requiring four days per week on campus and one day working remotely.

What's in it for you Purpose and impact.

Your work will help create an environment where students feel safe, respected, and supported while ensuring concerns are addressed with fairness, consistency, and care.

Every case you manage contributes to upholding community standards and fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and student success.

Develop specialized expertise.

This is an opportunity to deepen your experience in investigations, risk assessment, conflict resolution, and policy interpretation within a post-secondary environment.

You will build highly transferable skills while working across a range of student conduct matters and collaborating with colleagues who bring expertise in student affairs, equity, accessibility, and student well-being.

Help shape a growing function.

You will join the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities at an exciting stage of growth.

As the team continues to evolve, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, strengthen processes, support educational initiatives, and help shape how the University approaches student conduct with fairness, consistency, and a student-centred perspective.

As our new Student Conduct Specialist, you will: Lead investigations.

You will manage non-academic student conduct cases from intake through resolution, conducting fact-finding, assessing risk, gathering and evaluating evidence, interviewing involved parties, and preparing objective case summaries and recommendations.

You will apply university policies and principles of procedural fairness to support informed and consistent decision-making.

Support students with clarity and care.

You will serve as a trusted point of contact for students navigating challenging situations, providing clear information about university policies, processes, rights, and responsibilities.

You will approach sensitive conversations with empathy, professionalism, and neutrality, connecting students with appropriate campus and community resources when additional support is needed.

Facilitate early resolution.

When appropriate, you will support informal resolution processes that help students address concerns collaboratively and constructively.

You will guide conversations, explain options, and help participants reach fair and respectful outcomes while ensuring university policies and procedures are followed.

Collaborate across the University.

You will work closely with colleagues across Student Services, academic departments, and other campus partners to support case management, share information appropriately, and contribute to a coordinated approach to student well-being, community standards, and risk management.

Strengthen our programs and processes.

You will maintain accurate case documentation, prepare reports and correspondence, and contribute to educational initiatives that promote student rights, responsibilities, and community expectations.

You will also identify opportunities to improve processes, resources, and the overall student conduct experience as the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities continues to evolve.

You have: The education and experience.

You have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as social sciences, education, conflict resolution, human rights, law, or psychology, as well as experience in student conduct, investigations, complaint management, case management, or a related function.

Ideally, you have worked in a post-secondary environment and understand the unique considerations of supporting students while applying institutional policies and procedures.

The judgment.

You can interpret and apply complex policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks with fairness, consistency, and sound judgment.

You are comfortable assessing risk, gathering and evaluating information on the balance of probabilities, and making objective recommendations while maintaining confidentiality and procedural fairness.

The communication skills.

You are an empathetic and skilled communicator who can build trust while navigating sensitive and emotionally charged situations.

You approach difficult conversations with professionalism and neutrality, and you have the written communication skills to prepare clear, objective reports and case documentation.

The collaboration.

You build positive relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues across the University.

You value different perspectives, work effectively across teams, and know how to balance collaboration with discretion when managing confidential matters.

The organization.

You are highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple case files, prioritize competing demands, and maintain accurate documentation while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Why work at Yorkville University?

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we are united by a shared purpose: placing the student experience at the heart of everything we do.

Whether you are teaching, designing curriculum, advising learners, advancing technology, or supporting operations, your work directly fuels learning potential, strengthens inclusive communities, and fosters purposeful curiosity.

Here, professional growth is part of our culture.

In your role, you will have opportunities to help the launch of career-relevant programs, expand your expertise, and access tuition-free courses across our institutions - from certificates to master’s degrees.

Curiosity, initiative, and innovation are encouraged, and your ideas can move from vision to reality.

Our scale offers the best of both worlds: the reach and stability of a national institution combined with the agility of a mid-sized organization, where contributions are visible and valued.

You will be part of a diverse and inclusive community where authenticity is celebrated, collaboration is expected, and impact is shared - on learners, colleagues, and your own professional journey.

At Yorkville and Toronto Film School, your work does more than make a difference.

It empowers others to achieve their potential, while giving you the opportunity to realize yours.

We strive for equitable, consistent pay, though rates may vary within the same role based on performance, specialized knowledge, and impact.

We welcome conversations about compensation throughout the hiring process.

This conversation is an opportunity to learn more about Yorkville University, ask questions about the role and team, and discuss how your experience and approach align with our values and the future of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
