In this role, you will partner with leadership and frontline teams to strengthen safe work practices, mitigate risk, and champion a culture of continuous improvement.Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, you will play a lead role in running the daily operations of the safety department. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will help set priorities, drive internal initiatives forward, and ensure Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and programs are effectively implemented and continuously enhanced across manufacturing, site, and office environments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Oversight: Lead the day-to-day operations of the Workplace Health and Safety program, overseeing the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of safety policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and bylaws; proactively identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Risk Mitigation: Lead hazard identification and risk assessment activities, partnering with operations to deploy practical controls across production floors and offices.
  • Committee Collaboration: Support and collaborate with the Joint Occupational Safety and Health Committee (JOSHC) by helping set agendas, tracking action items, and advancing safety initiatives.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead thorough investigations into incidents, injuries, and near-misses, conducting root-cause analyses and ensuring corrective recommendations are tracked to completion.
  • Audits & Inspections: Plan and conduct regular site inspections and safety program audits, maintaining clear action plans and verifying the long-term effectiveness of corrective measures.
  • Training & Onboarding: Facilitate comprehensive safety orientation programs for new hires and provide ongoing training, mentorship, and safety best-practice coaching to existing staff.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and submit required documentation to relevant governing bodies (e.g., WCB, WSIB, OHSA) and maintain meticulous logs of all work-related incidents.
  • Industry Engagement: Maintain active memberships in relevant professional safety or environmental associations to stay current on industry developments, regulations, and emerging trends.

Core Strengths:

  • Clear verbal and written communication alongside strong interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking, sound judgment, and decisive action-taking.
  • Natural leadership, teamwork, and the ability to influence positive safety behaviors.
  • Proactive problem-solving, strong organizational skills, and reliable follow-through.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience: Proven experience implementing and promoting safe work practices within a fast-paced manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of current OHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and safety compliance requirements.
  • Certifications & Licenses: First-Aid Responder certification is required (or a willingness to obtain it with company support), along with a valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Critical Decision-Making: Ability to make sound, confident decisions in complex, high-pressure situations where clear guidelines may not be immediately available.
  • Adaptability: Proven capacity to manage multiple competing priorities and build strong, collaborative working relationships at all levels of an organization.
