Operations Officer - 58301

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Operations Officer III to join our Capital Markets Operations team in Toronto. This is a 12-month contract position with strong potential for extension or permanent conversion based on performance and business needs. Operating in a 100% back-office capacity, the successful candidate will support institutional trade settlement operations, manage complex reconciliations, and handle data processing across various financial platforms.

Type: 12-Month Contract (Extension/Conversion potential)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (37.5 hours/week)
Work Model: Onsite 5 days/week for the first 90 days. Post-90 days, transitions to hybrid (4 days onsite / 1 day remote). Anchor days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Responsibilities
Job-Specific Accountabilities
Settlements & Clearing: Support institutional settlement operations; execute daily CDS Arrow binds/netting procedures and access, match, and affirm DTC trade confirmations on T+1.
Reconciliations & Reporting: Complete daily financial reconciliations, projections, and reports within strict timeframes; investigate and correct suspense and clearing outages.
Trade Matching: Perform daily NI24-101 trade matching and review daily DTC/CDS >$10MM pending trade reports, providing timely status updates to management.
Client & Inquiry Management: Investigate and respond to internal and external partner inquiries on the same day, providing fails reporting to clients according to established SLAs. (Note: Direct communication is maintained with institutional clients, not end-retail clients).
Risk & Compliance: Maintain a strong awareness of international market buy-in rules and Extended Failed Trade Reporting regulatory requirements to mitigate firm risk.
Process Documentation: Ensure group processes are formally documented in SharePoint and continuously look for operational efficiencies.
Standard Accountabilities
Execute all transactions with a high degree of accuracy, speed, and diligence while complying with industry codes of conduct, AML policies, and privacy/clean-desk regulations.
Actively participate in cross-training and job-shadowing to ensure seamless desk coverage across the team during peak volumes.

Qualifications
Must-Have Skills & Experience
Industry Experience: 5–7 years of experience within banking, financial services, or capital markets.
Trade Settlements: Proven, hands-on experience with CDS and DTC clearing and settlement frameworks (very important).
Reconciliation Expertise: Strong background identifying, investigating, and resolving complex financial discrepancies and clearing outages.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and macros).
Education: University Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with institutional stakeholders.
Precision: Exceptional attention to detail with an ability to maintain accuracy under tight market deadlines.
Collaboration: A proven team player who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced trading operations environment.

Nice-to-Have Skills & Certifications
Canadian Securities Course (CSC) completion.
CFA, FRM, or accounting designations (CGA/CPA).
Basic coding or programming knowledge (e.g., VBA, SQL) for automation.
