Senior Design Engineer, Controls, Substations and Power Plants

Overview

Join BBA as a senior design engineer in controls. You will design control and protection systems for high‑voltage substations and hydroelectric power plants across Canada, participate in onsite work to ensure quality and compliance before energization, and play a key role in managing projects, coordinating with clients, and delivering high‑quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead proposal preparation.
• Take on various roles on projects, including project manager.
• Manage the technical portions of projects (design reviews, cost estimates, schedules).
• Review team engineering work for control systems at substations or power plants.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to a work team.
• Coordinate mandates with other discipline leads.
• Participate in group development and improve methods.

Qualifications

• University degree in electrical engineering.
• More than 10 years of experience in control projects at Hydro‑Québec.
• Knowledge of E3 design software.
• Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English‑speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; English may be used occasionally or daily depending on current projects.
• Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec.
• Available for short‑ and long‑term work assignments at client sites.
• Asset: knowledge of protection‑relay test equipment and onsite monitoring.
