Job description

One of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, is hiring an Analytics Engineer to join the Information Technology department in their Toronto office.


Reporting to the Director, Application Development, the Analytics Engineer plays a key role in shaping and delivering the Firm’s enterprise analytics platform. Combining strong analytical and data modelling skills with hands-on experience in modern cloud-based data platforms, this role designs and delivers reporting, analytics, and trusted business insights to support the ongoing evolution of the Firm’s Microsoft Fabric environment


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Collaborating with business stakeholders, analysts, and technical teams to design and deliver trusted datasets, dashboards and reporting solutions.

Developing and maintaining semantic models, curated datasets, and reporting structures for self-service analytics in Power BI.

Analyzing business data requirements and translating them into scalable data models and analytical solutions.

Supporting the design and evolution of the Firm’s Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse environment, including OneLake, Dataflows Gen2, and Pipelines.

Building and maintaining data ingestion and transformation processes for structured and semi-structured data.

Applying best practices for data modelling, including dimensional modelling and medallion architecture principles.

Ensuring data quality, consistency, and governance standards across reporting and analytics solutions.

Partnering with technical teams to optimize performance, usability, and scalability of analytics workloads.

Contributing to data governance, lineage, and metadata management initiatives.

Assisting in establishing standards and best practices for analytics development and data management.


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technologies, or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, analytics engineering or related roles.
  • Experience working with modern cloud-based data platforms is preferred.
  • Background in legal, financial or other professional services environments is considered an asset.
  • Industry standard certification is preferred.


Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, including semantic models, Dataflows Gen2, and Fabric workspaces.
  • Advanced SQL and T-SQL skills with experience building analytical datasets and reporting
  • solutions.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, data warehousing, and business intelligence best practices.
  • Experience creating dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics solutions in
  • Power BI.
  • Familiarity with Lakehouse concepts, Delta Lake, and modern data platform architectures.Understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage, and metadata management principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar governance tools is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Python, PySpark or Power Query (M) is an asset.
  • Exposure to data engineering concepts such as pipelines, orchestration, and data transformation is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex problems under pressure and within allotted time.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
