Ground-Up Commercial Construction – Peterborough, Ontario

The Opportunity

Our client, an established Canadian General Contractor, is seeking an experienced Senior Site Superintendent to lead the construction of a major new commercial development in Peterborough, Ontario.

The successful candidate will take full ownership of site operations for an approximately $50 million ground-up project with an anticipated construction duration of roughly two years. This is a high-profile opportunity suited to a senior construction professional with a proven record of delivering large, complex commercial or institutional projects from site mobilization through commissioning and turnover.

The Senior Site Superintendent will work closely with the Project Manager, project team, consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure the project is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to a high standard of quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all daily construction activities on site from mobilization through project completion.

  • Develop, maintain, and execute the project schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager and project team.

  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, suppliers, site personnel, and field operations.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, contract requirements, building codes, and applicable regulations.

  • Plan and coordinate site logistics, sequencing, access, deliveries, temporary facilities, and material handling.

  • Chair regular site meetings, trade coordination meetings, and safety meetings.

  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify potential scheduling, constructability, quality, or coordination issues.

  • Work closely with consultants and the project team to resolve RFIs, drawing discrepancies, deficiencies, and site-related challenges.

  • Maintain accurate daily reports, site records, progress documentation, and construction logs.

  • Enforce all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, quality, and professionalism across the site.

  • Manage inspections, testing, deficiencies, commissioning, occupancy requirements, and project closeout activities.

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with the client, consultants, subcontractors, authorities, and project stakeholders.

  • Mentor and provide direction to Assistant Superintendents, Site Coordinators, and other site personnel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive construction experience, including several years in a Site Superintendent or Senior Superintendent capacity.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering large ground-up commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, or similarly complex construction projects.

  • Proven ability to manage projects valued at approximately $30 million to $100 million or greater.

  • Strong knowledge of structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and building-envelope systems.

  • Experience managing projects from excavation and foundations through structure, building envelope, interior completion, commissioning, and turnover.

  • Strong understanding of construction schedules, critical-path activities, trade sequencing, and site logistics.

  • Thorough knowledge of Ontario construction practices, building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple subcontractors and competing project priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship, safety, and schedule performance.

  • Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software is considered an asset.

  • Gold Seal Certification, trade certification, or a construction-related diploma or degree is considered an asset.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced field leader who has worked with a recognized General Contractor and successfully delivered large, complex ground-up projects within Ontario.

This individual will bring strong site leadership, professional communication skills, technical construction knowledge, and the ability to represent the organization confidently with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders. The successful candidate will be proactive, organized, solutions-oriented, and capable of maintaining control of a demanding construction site from start to finish.

What Is Offered

  • Opportunity to lead a major, high-profile ground-up commercial project.

  • Long-term career growth with an established Canadian General Contractor.

  • Strong project pipeline and organizational support.

  • Opportunity to work alongside an experienced project management and construction team.
