Job description

Doing business to business, person to person. Payworks is a leading workforce management solutions provider and multi-year winner of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. We are proudly Canadian as well as committed to developing world-class products and providing a progressive workplace culture where Doing Right by Peopleis our purpose.

With clients of all sizes from coast to coast and more than 600 employees, we currently have an exciting opportunity on our Information Technology team for the right candidate.

DOING RIGHT BY PEOPLE – IT’S WHAT WE DO

Payworks develops proprietary, integrated SaaS-based products in the payroll, human resources and time and attendance space. We create, deploy and maintain our own solutions, which requires robust, always-on infrastructure and a team dedicated to keeping our systems running at their best. Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Technology, the Manager, Network Operations Centre (NOC) is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the NOC and evolving it into a unified observability function across all of IT. You will lead a team of NOC analysts while driving automated detection, consolidated monitoring, and proactive incident response — ensuring Payworks’ systems, networks, and infrastructure are always online and performing to the highest standards.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE PAYWORKS
  • Comprehensive employer paid benefits, including a Health Spending Account, for you and your family and excellent pension plan with employer contributions.
  • Plenty of professional development opportunities.
  • Community-minded culture – Receive two paid days per year to volunteer and lots of opportunity to “Pay it Forward”.
  • Time and flexibility to meet your needs – Hybrid work model with flexible work options, plus 3 weeks vacation to start, flex time and parental leave benefits.
  • Cool perks – Annual Lifestyle Spending Account, fun office environment and events, and more!
LEAD & INNOVATE– IT’S WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Lead and develop your team – Provide strong leadership, guidance, and direction to the NOC team. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, encouraging teamwork, communication, and knowledge sharing within the team and across departments. Conduct regular performance evaluations, one-on-ones, and coaching sessions.
  • Build a single pane of glass – Own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of a unified observability platform that consolidates monitoring, logging, metrics, and tracing across all of IT. Partner with Development, Product Support, Infrastructure, and adjacent teams to bring their telemetry into one consolidated view.
  • Drive automation – Build and mature automated detection capabilities that surface anomalies and failures earlier and with less manual effort. Develop self-healing responses to common failure scenarios and codify operational knowledge into automated runbooks and playbooks.
  • Manage incidents and capacity – Manage and prioritize incidents, outages, and service requests based on severity and impact. Develop capacity planning models and forecasts to estimate future growth and make infrastructure investment recommendations to the VP, Enterprise Technology.
  • Ensure compliance and standards – Ensure infrastructure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Participate in SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits, maintaining thorough records of all activities, and be accountable for audit controls that pertain to NOC and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Communicate and report – Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, topology, and operational procedures. Generate reports and dashboards for management review. Lead a monthly meeting with business and technology leaders to discuss incidents, potential risks, and business impacts from technology.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent working experience in a similar role will also be considered.
  • 6+ years of experience in network operations, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of VMware, network protocols, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure monitoring, observability, and management tool suites (e.g. APM, log aggregation, metrics and tracing platforms).
  • Experience designing or operating automated detection, alerting, and response/remediation capabilities.
  • Experience with SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits as a control owner or performer.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect effectively with both technical teams and senior executives.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues, with strong project management skills.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or ITIL are considered an asset.

We are proud to support a Flexible Work Plan that recognizes the diverse needs and lifestyles of our people. The Manager, Network Operations Centre has the option to work fully out of the Payworks office in Winnipeg or on a hybrid work model, working in the office at least three (3) days a week.

Payworks welcomes and encourages applications from all persons.
