Job description
We are looking for a few RCAs to complement our existing care team looking after my bedbound 94yr old mother who has vascular dementia. LPNs will also be considered. Hours would be part-time to fit in and expand the existing schedule. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting with bathing, and providing nursing and personal care as needed. Prior experience (minimum five years) in dementia care is required. Our priority is to find someone who is reliable, patient, and attentive to the needs of our family member, and who clicks well with our existing care team members. In no particular order, duties include: 1. Meal planning, preparation and clean up, 2. Companionship, 3. Hygiene and peri-care under the direction of home health care nurse/case manager 4. Transferring client from bed to wheelchair and back using an Easytrack overhead lift and sling 5. Laundry 6. Light cleaning and vacuuming, 7. Miscellaneous tasks as needs arise Must have full references and be willing to: 1. undergo criminal record check (vulnerable sector) 2. Complete several shifts job shadowing existing caregiver (you will be paid for the job shadowing) 4. Take direction from son who manages overall care of his mother 5. Show legal permission to work in Canada Qualifications required, 1. Registered BC Care Aide (please provide registration number) 2. Medication administration training 3. Foodsafe Additional training in Teepa Snow's methods and theory as well as Dementia Solutions training will be a big asset. Due to vascular dementia, client shows a wide range of behaviour from day to day which follows a rough pattern and predictability. Appetite and demeanor can change throughout the day.
