Job description
We are seeking a highly accomplished and technical DevOps Specialist for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier technical leadership capacity within the platform engineering and release management streams, specializing in the automation, optimization, and modernization of cloud-native deployment pipelines.

As a principal DevOps authority, you will bridge the gap between application development, quality assurance, infrastructure, and enterprise security teams. Operating within a hybrid work model, you will drive hands-on technical contributions by designing scalable automated frameworks, enforcing pipeline quality gates, and establishing unified Infrastructure-as-Code paradigms. This position is built for a self-directed expert who can confidently lead platform modernizations, champion continuous delivery patterns, and maximize systemic reliability across large-scale enterprise portfolios.

Location: Toronto, ON

Assignment Type: Hybrid (Mostly remote, with 1 day per week in office)

Contract Duration: 12 months

Advantages
Pure Technical Leadership: Drive macro-level platform automation and architectural strategy without the friction of people-management duties.

Modern Tooling Framework: Gain deep operational control over market-leading systems including GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Azure Cloud.

Advanced Pipeline Engineering: Build secure DevSecOps pipelines integrating automated vulnerability scans, policy compliance, and GitOps controls.

Continuous Improvement Scope: Influence the strategic enterprise roadmap by introducing AI-assisted engineering tools and Site Reliability practices.

Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Integration Engineering
Partner with project teams to design, implement, and support robust DevOps and release management solutions aligned with business requirements.

Build, maintain, and optimize scalable CI/CD pipelines utilizing Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitHub Enterprise, Bitbucket, Terraform, Kubernetes, and JFrog Artifactory.

Support enterprise application deployments, environment provisioning, multi-system integration activities, and production readiness checks.

Collaborate fluidly with development, QA, infrastructure, security, architecture, and vendor teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

Lead solution design workshops, technical reviews, implementation planning, and proof-of-concept validation activities.

Troubleshoot complex deployment failures, infrastructure connectivity limits, and environment configuration issues, providing definitive remediation paths.

Automation & Platform Engineering
Design and implement comprehensive automation solutions utilizing Pipeline-as-Code, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), reusable deployment frameworks, and self-service platform capabilities.

Drive process automation initiatives that systematically improve developer experience, backend platform reliability, and overall operational efficiency.

Implement strict security checkpoints, automated quality gates, compliance configurations, and vulnerability scanning controls within corporate CI/CD pipelines.

Support cloud-based deployments and promote enterprise DevOps practices across multiple application portfolios.

Process Modernization & Knowledge Leadership
Contribute to enterprise DevOps standards, master release management rules, governance frameworks, and operational best practices.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation standardization, platform maturity, system reliability, and operational excellence.

Develop and maintain highly organized technical documentation, standards, runbooks, procedures, and clear knowledge transfer articles.

Mentor team members and actively promote modern DevOps patterns and engineering practices across delivery teams and projects.

Evaluate emerging tools, modern cloud technologies, and AI-assisted capabilities to continuously improve software delivery cycles.

Qualifications
Core Technical & DevOps Requirements
Enterprise Platform Tenure: 7 to 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in DevOps, Release Management, Platform Engineering, or related disciplines within large enterprise settings.

CI/CD Pipeline Mastery: 5+ years of dedicated technical experience designing, building, and supporting enterprise CI/CD solutions using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitHub Enterprise, Bitbucket, Terraform, Kubernetes, and JFrog Artifactory.

Modern Infrastructure Fluency: Extensive experience implementing Pipeline-as-Code, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automated verification frameworks, and environment scaling rules.

Cloud & Release Engineering Depth: Proven experience supporting Azure cloud environments, modern microservices delivery systems, and release management structures for both project and operational models.

SDLC Governance: Strong knowledge of Git workflows, source control management, Agile/Scrum delivery models, and corporate change management controls.

Pipeline Hardening Experience: Direct experience embedding security compliance, quality gates, automated vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement within delivery pipelines.

Preferred Assets & Competencies
Containerization & Cloud Native: Practical experience configuring Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native application deployment models.

GitOps & SRE Principles: Foundational knowledge of GitOps configurations (such as ArgoCD), Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, observability frameworks, error budgets, and incident management.

Observability Platform Tooling: Familiarity operating monitoring layers including Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Splunk.

Advanced DevSecOps & AI Enablement: Exposure implementing automated compliance rules, security scanning frameworks, and leveraging AI-assisted tooling for software deployment and productivity improvements.

Soft Skills & Technical Leadership
Consultative Facilitation: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with polished ease when leading technical reviews, option evaluations, and roadmap planning sessions alongside senior leadership, vendors, and technical squads.

Analytical Problem Solving: Superior critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and data troubleshooting capabilities to navigate complex platform anomalies.

Documentation Architecture: Exceptional ability to synthesize complex environment configurations into simple, actionable runbooks, standards, and knowledge transfer artifacts.
