About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Career & Curriculum Development, the Student Talent Development Specialist supports students and recent graduates, providing guidance to support further education and/or advanced employment preparation in order to develop the skills, confidence, and strategies needed to navigate their career journeys and pursue further education or employment opportunities.

Working collaboratively within Co-op, Career and Experiential Education, the Student Talent Development Specialist contributes to Brock’s commitment to delivering a transformational and accessible student experience.

TheStudent Talent Development Specialistwill:

  • Coachstudents and recent graduates with identifying career options through critical reflection to buildconfidence, self-awareness, and strategies to navigate career barriers and effectively articulate their strengths to potential employers or academic programs;

  • Support students and recent graduates to translate their experiences into professional skills and confidently communicate those skills in job searches or advanced education applications, through individual appointments, small group and workshop formats;

  • Applycurrent labour market, career development, recruitment/selection trends, student employment and workplace issues andutilizeup-to-date market information to coach students and recent graduates;

  • Ensure effective and seamless transitions within CCEEregardingstudents’ progress oftheir talent development as they move through their career/co-op journeyand support continuity across career development services;

  • Report on student satisfaction and provide feedback on opportunities to enhance students’ satisfactionand service delivery;

  • Collaborate with the CCEE Talent Developmentteam to research and create resources that address student career development needs;

  • Work with various members of the Career Education Team, including the student team, to engage, support, and promote participation in Career Education activities and events;

  • Adopt coaching and reflectionpracticeapproachesto help students develop high qualityjob search documents within set timelines and effective interview techniques that are essential forsuccessful career transitions;

  • Keep team members apprised of progress, issues, and concernsregardingstudents’ progress and career readiness,whenappropriate;

  • Collaborate with Faculty/Departments to engage students with career development;

  • Maintain the student information database fortracking student engagement, outcomes, and career development activity;

  • Use resume review software ( effectively to meet the quality and quantity of document reviews every term;

  • Participate, represent, and support work related activities that may require attendance outside of normal working hours; including but not limited to:

  • Ontario Universities Fair – Toronto;

  • Spring Open House – on campus;

  • Fall Open House – on campus;

  • Co-op Professional Preparation Course (undergraduate and graduate) (when applicable);

  • Faculty Events.

KeySkills andExperience:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education andexperience;

  • Experience in recruitment and career coaching activities;

  • Knowledge of career development methods and practices;

  • Knowledge of industry trends and labour market demand for all programs;

  • Extensive knowledge of advanced standards for resume preparation;

  • Advanced knowledge of current interviewing trends withinnumerousdiverse industries;

  • Ability todemonstratea professional and dynamic presentation style to engage and motivate students in small and large groups;

  • Ability to coach, mentor, persuade, and motivate individuals;

  • Ability to work with diverse groups, advising, coaching, and strategizing career planningobjectives;

  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability toconnect with andengagestudents, staff, and faculty;

  • Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously and independently;

  • Creativity and problem-solving abilities to provide advice and recommendations to students with all aspects of theCareer Development process;and

  • Ability to think critically toleverageexisting resources to solve problems.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Career Development Practitioner’s Certification;

  • Human Resources Certification;

  • Career Coaching/Mentoring training certification;

  • Professional resume writing.

SalaryandTotal Rewards:

  • Job Grade: J; Salary Scale: $57,267 -$91,267

  • Target HiringSalary:$57,267*

  • ThisisaFixed term contractposition thatincludes:
