Clifton Blake is a private equity real estate firm in downtown Toronto that was established in 2005. Services include Asset Management, Private Equity, Mortgage Financing, Development, Construction and Property Management.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting, the Senior Fund Accountant plays a critical role in the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for our private equity mortgage funds across Canadian and U.S. markets.

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our expanding team at Clifton Blake. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in public accounting, private equity, real estate, or mortgage lending. This position offers significant opportunities for professional growth, with a clear trajectory toward a Team Supervisor or Accounting Manager role within 12–24 months. Beyond core accounting functions, the successful candidate will facilitate continuous improvement in our internal systems and procedures while acting as a key liaison for our Investor Relations team.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Loan Administration: Oversee comprehensive loan management, including the review of interest collections, loan funding, and payoff processing.
• Reporting Cycle: Lead the end-to-end accounting and reporting cycle for our private equity mortgage funds.
• External Fund Administrator Coordination: supervise our third-party administrator (SGGG Fund Services Inc.) to ensure the accuracy of Net Asset Value (NAV) reporting and monthly financial packages.
• Compliance & Disclosure: Prepare detailed fund performance monthly reports and disclosure for investors and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Treasury Management: Manage cash balances and develop accurate, recurring cash flow forecasts. Prepare monthly line of credits report per bank requirements
• Audit & Tax Support: Assist year-end financial statement audits and T3 tax return engagements.
• Other Support: Assist senior management with ad-hoc projects and strategic financial initiatives.

Fund Operations and Investor Relations related:

• Capital Activity: Collaborate with the Investor Relations team to track fund subscriptions, redemptions, and distribution related cash flows.
• Administrator Oversight: Review the work of external fund administrators regarding monthly subscriptions, redemptions, and distributions report.
• Stakeholder Communication: to support Investor Relations team in addressing inquiries regarding fund performance, investment returns, and tax matters.
• Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to streamline accounting and operational processes and take on additional responsibilities as the firm evolves.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 4–5 years of accounting and financial reporting experience, ideally within the mortgage lending, private equity fund, or public accounting sectors.
• Advanced Excel capabilities, including proficiency in Pivot Tables, VLookup/XLookup, arrays, and complex conditional statements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Professional experience in audit and tax engagements is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with The Mortgage Office software, experience with private equity NAV calculations and knowledge in the mortgage lending industry will be assets.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and high-growth environment with minimal supervision.
• Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to build internal partnerships.
• A proactive, results-oriented mindset with the agility to adapt to shifting priorities.

Salary range: $82K to $95K with potential bonus depending on job and fund performance
