Job Description
This role is for an experienced Embedded Build or CI/CD Pipeline Engineer within a DevSecOps team that designs, builds, and maintains shared build systems, automated pipelines, and software delivery infrastructure for ECU software. You will join either the Embedded Build Engineering team or the Embedded Pipeline Engineering team, depending on your experience and strengths. Build engineers focus on compiler optimization, dependency management, build reproducibility, security, and performance, while pipeline engineers focus on CI/CD workflow orchestration, automated testing, security gating, and deployment automation. This is a sr-level position that requires prior experience in complex, high-volume software delivery environments and a strong foundation in Python, Linux, and modern DevOps practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and improve automation that enables teams to build, test, and deploy code efficiently.
- Shape developer workflows from code commit through CI/CD pipelines to production environments.
- Ensure build and deployment systems meet reliability, availability, security, and traceability requirements.
- Drive adoption of common platforms and standards for observability, testing, and automation across teams.
- Leverage cloud and on-premises technologies to provision fast, reliable build and test environments.
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation for build systems, pipelines, and developer workflows.
- Collaborate closely with product teams to apply modern DevOps and SRE practices to ECU software delivery.
- Partner with developers to support local build tooling, reproducible builds, and artifact/version management.
- Optimize compilers, linkers, and build systems to improve build performance, reproducibility, and security (Build Engineer focus).
- Manage complex dependency trees and address incremental build performance challenges (Build Engineer focus).
- Reason about complex C/C++ embedded code and its impact on build configurations and performance (Build Engineer focus).
- Design and operate CI/CD pipelines using modern tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps (Pipeline Engineer focus).
- Orchestrate end-to-end workflows that integrate build, test, quality checks, and deployment across multiple teams (Pipeline Engineer focus).
- Implement and manage infrastructure-as-code, secrets management, and security or quality gates within pipelines (Pipeline Engineer focus).
- Design and manage environment promotion strategies, including blue/green and canary deployments (Pipeline Engineer focus).
- Implement and improve pipeline observability to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize CI/CD workflows.
- Collaborate with architects and experienced engineering professionals to influence build engineering and pipeline automation initiatives.
- Support multiple software products or hardware platforms as needed in an embedded software delivery environment.
- Contribute to a highly collaborative engineering culture by participating in code reviews, pair programming, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of professional experience in software development, DevOps, build engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong Python development experience, including writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming (OOP) and understanding of object-oriented design principles.
- Experience working with data structures and handling, analyzing, and debugging data in Python-based solutions.
- Experience developing automation scripts and integrating with third-party APIs.
- Solid experience working in Linux environments, including command-line tools and scripting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Exposure to agile or XP practices such as pair programming and test-driven development (TDD), or a strong willingness to adopt them.
- Hands-on experience with modern DevOps and configuration management practices, including source control, branching strategies, CI/CD, and code review workflows.
- Proficiency in building tools and automation in Python plus at least one additional scripting language such as Bash or Ruby.
- Experience working with C, C++ or Go codebases in the context of build systems, tooling, or pipelines.
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix operating systems, with familiarity with Windows considered a plus.
- Exposure to cloud or virtualized infrastructure environments.
- Ability to fit either the Embedded Build Engineer or Embedded Pipeline Engineer role as described, with a strong understanding of their respective responsibilities.

- Go development experience, particularly for tooling and automation in DevOps or build environments.
- Experience working in embedded software development environments.
- Embedded build engineering experience, including working with toolchains and build systems for embedded platforms.
- Experience supporting multiple software products or hardware platforms concurrently.
- Knowledge of software delivery and security automation best practices, including secure build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience with container and cloud technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Azure, GKE, or GCP.
- Familiarity with GNU Make and other build tools commonly used in C/C++ or embedded environments.
- Experience with build systems such as Maven, Gradle, CMake, Ninja, or Autotools.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, secrets management, and implementing security or quality gates in pipelines.
