Job Title: CNC Setup OperatorJob DescriptionThe CNC Setup Operator sets up and operates CNC mills and related fabrication equipment to produce precision aluminum components in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, configure machines according to specifications, verify materials and measurements, and ensure that every part meets tight tolerance and quality standards while working safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Review the daily work schedule and plan setups and production activities accordingly.
- Load the correct part numbers into CNC machines and set them up to match engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Set up and operate CNC mills, including Haas, Macal, and Mazak machines, within the Fabrication Department.
- Use basic G and M codes to make necessary adjustments to machining programs provided by the programmer.
- Fabricate parts according to fabrication drawings, ensuring adherence to tight tolerances and quality requirements.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance checks on machines and equipment as required.
- Follow work order specifications and packing instructions accurately throughout the production process.
- Read and follow all notes and instructions in the computer system (Epics) to ensure correct setup and production.
- Ensure the first piece sample is produced and double-checked by other plant personnel before proceeding with full production.
- Verify that all incoming materials meet specifications before starting fabrication and confirm that material is correctly identified.
- Confirm that all work order data is accurate and complete prior to production.
- Monitor machines during operation and make adjustments to machining programs as required to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Use measuring tools, such as tape measures and calipers, to verify dimensions and tolerances during and after machining.
- Report equipment malfunctions or abnormalities promptly to ensure timely maintenance and minimal downtime.
- Complete orders on time, meeting production targets and schedule requirements.
- Comply with all quality-related policies, procedures, and system requirements in the fabrication department.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Perform other related duties in the fabrication department as required.
Essential Skills- Minimum 1.5 years of CNC setup experience, preferably on mills.
- Experience working in a metal fabrication or automotive shop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication drawings.
- Familiarity with CNC mills such as Haas, Macal, and Mazak machines.
- Basic understanding of G and M codes to adjust machining programs when needed.
- Ability to work with tight tolerances and maintain consistent part quality.
- Proficiency using measuring tools, including tape measures and calipers.
- Ability to perform daily preventive maintenance checks on machines.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs as part of regular duties.
- Ability to follow detailed work orders, packing instructions, and computer-based notes (Epics).
- Strong attention to detail to verify materials, work order data, and first piece samples before production.
- Willingness to report equipment issues promptly and follow established safety and quality procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience in a manufacturing facility, particularly in metal fabrication, is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with aluminum extrusion or precision aluminum profiles is an asset.
- Exposure to SolidWorks-based engineering drawings and working with a programming team is an advantage.
- Comfort working in a high-volume, schedule-driven production environment.
- Interest in ongoing skills development and training in technical or related areas.

Work Environment
You work in a loud manufacturing facility that specializes in aluminum extrusion and metal fabrication. The environment includes strong oil smells and noticeable burning metal fumes from the extrusion process, and it can become hot inside during the summer months. The fabrication area operates with approximately 40 people per shift, including forklift operators, saw operators, press operators, a shift supervisor, and a shift manager, fostering a team-based production setting. You primarily work with CNC mills, including Haas, Macal, and Mazak machines, using engineering drawings created in SolidWorks and instructions delivered through a computer system (Epics). The role involves handling and measuring metal components with tools such as tape measures and calipers, and performing regular preventive maintenance checks on the equipment. The position follows a 12-hour night shift schedule from 5:55 . to 6:10 . on a rotating two-week cycle: in Week 1 you work 36 hours and in Week 2 you work 48 hours, with a pattern of 2 days on/2 days off, then 3 days on/2 days off, then 2 days on/3 days off. You work every other weekend under this rotation. Based on this schedule, you receive 4 hours of overtime every two weeks. The dress code is typical for an industrial manufacturing setting, requiring appropriate workwear and safety gear suitable for a loud, hot, and production-focused environment.
