Job Title: Electrical Test EngineerJob DescriptionThis role focuses on testing and validating high-voltage electrical products with IoT features and complex systems in a lab-based environment. You will design and execute comprehensive test plans, support test bench development, and collaborate closely with system design engineers and developers to ensure high-quality, reliable residential energy products such as solar inverters, batteries, EV chargers, smart panels, connected outlets, and smart lighting solutions. The position is 100% on site in a lab setting, offers a structured buddy system for support and knowledge sharing, and welcomes candidates who are recent graduates or have internship experience.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with system design engineers, developers, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and develop comprehensive test strategies.
- Plan, design, and maintain detailed test plans that cover functional, regression, integration, and performance testing for high-voltage electrical products with IoT features.
- Review use cases, system requirements, and product specifications to fully understand system and solution behavior, and translate system and sub-system requirements into clear test requirements and test plans.
- Create and execute detailed test cases and test scripts based on requirements and specifications, ensuring thorough coverage of all relevant scenarios.
- Manage traceability between the test plan, test cases, automation sequences, and requirements, ensuring clear linkage and coverage across all testing activities.
- Report test progress, results, and coverage to stakeholders, providing clear documentation and updates throughout the test lifecycle.
- Identify, document, and report defects, issues, and anomalies using a defect tracking system, and collaborate with engineering teams to help resolve them.
- Support the full test bench development lifecycle, including gathering requirements, contributing to design, assisting with implementation, and supporting ongoing maintenance.
- Use electrical testing equipment, instrumentation, and software tools to perform integration, verification, and validation of hardware and firmware.
- Debug hardware and firmware issues discovered during testing and provide clear feedback to design and development teams.
- Contribute to test system design and test automation to improve efficiency, repeatability, and coverage of testing activities.
- Work effectively in a dynamic, multi–time zone environment, coordinating with global teams as needed.
- Travel up to approximately 10% of the time for testing, collaboration, or lab-related activities as required.
Essential Skills- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering degree, including degrees from BCIT.
- 1–3 years of experience in integration, verification, and validation of high-voltage electrical products with IoT features or similarly complex systems. (Candidates with strong internships or recent graduation will also be
- Experience in electrical hardware and firmware testing, including test system design, test automation, test plan development, and debugging hardware and firmware issues.
