Job Summary

The Supervisor, Production Maintenance is responsible for the supervision of the Production Maintenance team consisting of Mechanics, Electrical/Instrumentation Technicians (EITs), and an Automated Systems Technician. The Production Maintenance Team is spread across three (3) shifts with each shift team consisting of an appropriate skill mix to support shift operations. The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure that all work performed by the team is completed in compliance with Safe Work Practices, cGMP, Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies. As a part of the Production leadership team, additional responsibilities include scheduling and controlling day-to-day Production maintenance activities, developing systems and measurements to evaluate equipment and employee individual performance, and leading initiatives (e.g. reliability, training) to facilitate improved product quality, equipment productivity, and personnel safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide results-oriented leadership that drives continuous improvement consistent with the Operations Strategic Plan.
  • Co-ordinate, assigns, supervise and review all maintenance activities and outcomes.
  • Develop systems and metrics to measure and evaluate both productivity and individual performance and contribution on an on-going basis
  • Use systems and metrics to guide the initiation and execution of quality, safety, and productivity and continuous improvement initiatives in support of the Operations Strategic Plan
  • Provide strong leadership to the team that fosters personal development, interaction and participation.
  • Execute the maintenance strategy according to plan, through clear communication, meeting timelines and engaging the team at all levels while ensuring minimal disruption to the Production and Formulation Development schedules
  • Responsible and accountable for supervising the team in accordance with Ontario Occupation Health and Safety Act, Apotex Inc Health and Safety policies and Safe Work procedures (SWPs)
  • Provide recommendations to the next level of management regarding procedural and organizational changes
  • Evaluate the individual performance and contribution of all direct reports on an on-going basis and establish developmental plans in conjunction with individuals where required.
  • Develop and support continuous improvement and proactive activities within a maintenance environment including minimizing equipment downtime
  • Responsible for the resolution of all employee issues within the department with the involvement of the next level of management and human resources as required
  • Responsible for driving the key maintenance metrics’ compliance, schedule adherence, breakdowns, backlog and reliability
  • Act as a specialized manufacturing resource to senior management to support resolution of complex technical and equipment related issues
  • Serve as departmental representative in the absence of the department manager
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee’s progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Utilize open, honest, two-way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

  • Shift expectations : Fridays and Mondays, 8 hours on day shift starting at 7 AM, and weekends with 12-hour shifts each day on day shift.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Engineering degree or technical diploma/trade certification/education and equivalent experience
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, particularly in the areas of approachability, dealing with direct reports, managing diversity and setting goals and objectives and measuring performance
  • Demonstrated high level of numerical, statistics, and trending skills an asset
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office programs and exposure to SAP or other ERPs
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work within a team environment (as part of a team) as demonstrated through previous work experience.
  • Previous experience in the Food, Consumer Packaged Goods or Pharmaceutical industry an asset.

Experience

  • Three to five years supervisory experience preferred

Compensation Data
The hiring range for this position is $83,126.43 - 116,377.00 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
