Position Overview

The Career Services Advisor is responsible for delivering comprehensive career counselling, student employment preparation, employer engagement initiatives, and career development programming for domestic and international students. The Advisor supports students through career exploration, job readiness, practicum preparation, and the transition into the workforce. The role works collaboratively with internal teams, employers, and licensed immigration professionals to deliver high-quality career services and positive student employment outcomes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Career Counselling, Student Advising & Professional Support
  • Lead individual and group career advising sessions focused on resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, workplace professionalism and networking skills.
  • Provide structured guidance to students on career planning, labour market awareness, and professional goal development aligned with their academic program.
  • Offer graduate support by providing job search assistance, employer referrals, industry connections, and transition to work coaching.
  • Counsel students on academic or personal barriers that impact career progress and provide appropriate referrals to internal or external support services.

Practicum & Employment Readiness Support
  • Prepare students for practicum and work integrated learning opportunities by offering job readiness training, communication coaching, and professional etiquette guidance.
  • Collaborate with the Client Services team and external employers to identify and develop employment and practicum partnership opportunities that align wiht student skills, interests, and program requirements.
  • Develop and maintain employer relations with employers, clinical sites, and community partners to support practicum placements and graduate employment opportunities.

Workshops, Training Programs & Assessments
  • Develop and deliver career development workshops on job search preparation, application tracking, interview success, networking, and time management strategies.
  • Organize mock interview weeks, employer information panels, and professional development sessions to enhance students’ employability.
  • Administer and interpret career interest and aptitude assessments to assist students in understanding strengths, competencies, and appropriate career pathways.
Career Events & Institutional Initiatives
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute largescale career related events, including job fairs, and networking sessions.
  • Oversee student engagement initiatives in collaboration with faculty, admissions, and administrative staff.
  • Evaluate event effectiveness and recommend improvements to enhance student outcomes and employer participation.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Quality Improvement
  • Define and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to student employment, practicum success, and graduate outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and tracking systems for employment data, student progress, and Career Services service utilization.
  • Analyze trends and outcomes to enhance Career Services programming and support institutional reporting requirements

Orientation & Admissions Support
  • Lead the Career Services portion of new student orientation, outlining career outcomes, employability goals, and available support services.
  • Represent Career Services at open hourses, recruitment events, and community engagement activities, advising propspective students on career pathways, employability outcomes, and available suport services.

Collaboration with RCIC & Licensed Recruitment Partners
  • Collaborate closely with the Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and the licensed international recruitment partner to ensure students receive accurate immigration related information and professional guidance.
  • Provide students with appropriate referrals for immigration matters that may impact academic progression or career planning, while ensuring compliance with professional and regulatory boundaries.

Employer & Community Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and regional employers to create practicum and employment opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Collaborate with employers to understand industry needs and align college programs accordingly.
  • Act as a liaison between OICC and industry partners, ensuring ongoing communication and partnership growth.

Person Specifications

Legal status
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
  • Clear background or criminal record check
Qualifications and Skills
  • Diploma or degree in Career Development, Human Resources, Education, or a related field considered an asset.
  • Minimum 4-5 years years of experience in career services, employment services, workforce development or employer engagement
  • Proven ability to build and maintain employer partnerships and develop job opportunities.
  • Experience in providing career advising and support to young adults, preferably in an educational setting such as a private career college.
  • Familiarity with CCA and ECE programs and their specific practicum and employment requirements is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills, project management skills and event planning skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with client management databases.
  • Canadian Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) certification is considered an asset.
