Job description

Technical Full Time Whitehorse, YT Hybrid $105,000 - $140,000 CAD per year

Solvest began operations in the Yukon in 2015, and we have since established ourselves as the standard for renewable energy services in northern and remote regions. Our core values are Innovation, Trust, Empowerment, and Tenacity.

What we offer:

  • A people-focused workplace; our employees are the center of our culture.
  • A chance to contribute to a greener and more inclusive future.
  • Working with a great team.
  • We promote from within.
  • Work / life balance with a 4-day work week (36 hours)

The Opportunity:

Solvest is seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer, with experience in utility-scale renewable design and construction projects, to join our growing team.

At this time, we are only pursuing candidates with their P.Eng designation. While our main discipline for in-house engineering is in Electrical Engineering, we welcome P.Eng designations in other disciplines with relevant experience to apply as well for this position.

Reporting to our Principal Engineer, you will lead all phases of a large-scale EPC project, including: coordinating internal engineering teams, third-party consultants, clients, and contractors to ensure deliverables are met, quality standards are upheld, and the client experience is exceptional. You are someone who takes full ownership of your project scope and thrives in a role where no two days look the same.

This is a unique hybrid / remote position that allows the successful candidate to work remotely from anywhere in Canada, or from our offices in Whitehorse, Yukon or Cobourg, Ontario. This position will require infrequent travel to project sites across Canada and/or Alaska.

Who you are:

You are a highly motivated and detail-oriented Professional Engineer with a genuine passion for renewable energy and sustainable design. You are a natural organizer who takes pride in keeping complex, multi-party projects running smoothly. You find deep satisfaction in seeing a project through from kickoff to closeout without anything falling through the cracks.

You are a high-performing individual contributor who thrives without needing a team beneath you. You bring structure to ambiguity, proactively managing deliverables, timelines, and stakeholder expectations with precision and confidence. Comfortable liaising between clients, consultants, contractors, and internal staff, you are a clear and effective communicator who knows how to ask the right questions, flag the right risks, and keep every party aligned. You hold yourself to a high standard, and that bar for quality is visible in everything you deliver.

Your previous experience and background in technical project execution (ex: Designer, Owner’s Engineer, Field Engineer, etc.) allows you to proactively manage project goals and ensure the overall project is designed and executed in the most efficient method.

Employment Status: Permanent Full Time – 36 hours per week

Wage Range: $105,000 - $140,000 per year (based on experience)

Leave Entitlement: Four weeks of paid vacation to start + 4 paid sick days per year.

As part of our commitment to employee wellness, we provide the following benefits:

Employer-paid comprehensive health benefits package after 3 months (unlimited access to virtual health care, mental health care and wellbeing, and virtual pharmacy via Dialogue, flexible work arrangements, and more.

Job Description (high level summary - not inclusive of all duties):

  • Lead the technical direction of both internal and external engineering for all disciplines of a project to ensure delivery of cohesive and coordinated deliverables.
  • Review of design packages and coordination of cross-discipline inputs, decisions, and results.
  • Liaise between clients, support staff, third-party consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies in all facets of project planning and execution as required to ensure project success.
  • Understand electrical designs, specifications, and schematics for renewable energy and systems such as photovoltaic (PV) solar, EV charging, battery storage systems, wind, and grid integration.
  • Track deliverables throughout the project lifecycle (recording revisions, revision purposes, distribution, and transmittal histories).
  • Interact daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field.
  • Perform overall quality control of the technical work (budget, schedule, scope) and report regularly on project status.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management team to support all technical decisions on the project from Design through to Final Commissioning and Project Closeout.
  • Ensure reliability, retrievability and traceability of the project data.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting and keep stakeholders informed of project progress.

Required Skills/Qualification:

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in a Canadian jurisdiction with eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut OR as a Professional Engineer (PE) registered in a USA jurisdiction with eligibility to register in Alaska.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience work with power utilities, renewable projects, construction, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, grid integration, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code, the National Electrical Code, and relevant renewable energy standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Sound judgment in technical matters to solve complex electrical and technical problems and to make practical recommendations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry best practice engineering standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning of construction projects.
  • Ability to work within cross-functional teams and independently.
  • Enthusiastic towards the environment, green energy, and the position.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Background Check
  • Ability to travel to remote project sites when required
