Job description

Get started on an exciting career at Element!

Element employees make a difference in the lives of others every day. We are re‑defining the fleet management industry to be people first, then business – delivering on our promise of a superior client experience. This takes hard work and innovation, and we need more like‑minded people on our team.

About The Role

We’re looking for a strong communicator and collaborative leader to join our team as Manager, Software Engineering, T&R. In this role, you will lead the delivery, quality, and scalability of a web‑based platform by coordinating internal and external development resources. You will ensure business requirements are translated into effective technical solutions and that development outcomes are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned to quality, performance, and security expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead end‑to‑end delivery of the web‑based platform by translating business requirements into detailed technical specifications and aligning stakeholders and development teams to ensure successful, timely outcomes.
  • Oversee system architecture and development across backend, frontend, and database components, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and adhere to established engineering standards and best practices.
  • Manage the outsourced development partner, including day‑to‑day coordination, performance monitoring against defined KPIs, budget tracking, and escalation management to ensure delivery expectations are met.
  • Drive Agile delivery processes by facilitating key ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives) and ensuring effective development workflows, including continuous integration, deployment, and testing practices.
  • Establish and enforce quality assurance standards, including code reviews, testing protocols, and performance optimization, to ensure reliable, high‑performing application functionality.
  • Monitor vendor performance, delivery efficiency, and resource allocation to support effective budget utilization.
  • Align technical delivery with business needs while maintaining consistent communication with stakeholders and clients.
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges to improve system performance, development practices, and delivery efficiency.
  • Collaborate across distributed and cross‑functional teams to support delivery objectives and stakeholder alignment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience in a leadership or management capacity, including coordination of outsourced or offshore development teams.
  • Strong technical background in backend and frontend development, including API‑driven architectures and relational databases.
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with Linux‑based environments.
  • Knowledge of data security, legal, and compliance considerations in software development.

Location

Toronto, ON

The hiring base salary range for this position is $111,100 - $152,800. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. Please note that the disclosed salary range is solely for candidates hired to perform work within this geographic location. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.

What’s In It For You

  • A culture of innovation, empowerment, decision‑making, and accountability
  • Comprehensive health and welfare benefits that serve the needs of you and your family and foster a culture of wellness (for qualified roles)
  • Additional benefits and amenities, including paid time‑off programs (vacation, sick leave, and holidays) (for qualified roles)

Applicants will be required to undergo a background check only if and after a conditional offer of employment has been extended.
