Job description

Equiton is seeking a strategic, practical, and collaborative Director, Risk Management to build and operate the firm’s Enterprise Risk Management function as the organization continues to scale across Canada and the United States. This role will establish a practical enterprise-wide framework for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and escalating risk in a consistent and decision-useful way.

The Director, Risk Management will lead the core ERM processes, including the risk taxonomy, risk register, risk assessment process, key risk indicators, remediation tracking, and risk reporting needed to give leadership a clear view of material risks across the business.

Success in this role will require independent judgment, sound risk discipline, and the ability to partner closely with risk owners across the business while maintaining clear second-line independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Equiton’s enterprise risk management framework, including the risk taxonomy, risk register, risk assessment process, key risk indicators, escalation protocols, and remediation tracking.
  • Lead regular enterprise risk reviews with business leaders to identify, assess, monitor, and report on material risks across the organization.
  • Prepare clear and practical risk reporting for senior leadership, including key risk themes, emerging issues, control gaps, and remediation status.
  • Monitor risk indicators, incidents, control issues, and remediation progress to support timely follow-up and accountability by risk owners.
  • Provide second-line guidance and challenge on business initiatives, operational controls, vendor risks, and technology risks.
  • Promote a strong risk culture by helping business teams understand, document, elevate, and manage risks in a consistent manner.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise risk, operational risk, business continuity, or related risk disciplines within financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise risk management and operational risk frameworks, with the ability to apply them pragmatically in a changing business environment.
  • Proven ability to navigate complexity, exercise sound judgment, and provide strategic risk insight that supports commercial and operational decision-making.
  • Exceptional influencing and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to engage and challenge executive leaders and cross‑functional business partners.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills, with the ability to translate complexity into clear actions and recommendations.
