Job Title: Production Associate
Job Description
You will work in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment, supporting pipe production by operating equipment, handling materials, and building shipping crates. The position involves rotating 12-hour continental shifts and requires comfort with physical work, hand and power tools, and basic measuring and math skills.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload pipe from production machines in a safe and efficient manner.
- Inspect pipe visually and with a custom measuring tool to ensure it meets quality standards.
- Build shipping crates for pipe using hand and power tools, including hammers, nail guns, reciprocating saws, and chop saws.
- Band and package bundles of pipe securely for transport.
- Lift 15–30 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Use a measuring tape in both imperial and metric units, reading measurements accurately down to 1/8 of an inch and in centimeters.
- Operate an overhead crane and forklift once training and certification are completed.
- Use hammers and nail guns to fasten wood tops on pipe frames when finishing individual crates.
- Use saws to cut pipe during start-up processes, during power failures, and when clearing tanks.
- Use various types and sizes of wrenches to make adjustments to machines throughout the day.
- Follow established safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Work effectively on a rotating continental shift schedule, including days and nights, and perform 12-hour shifts.
- Collaborate with a partner or work independently as required to meet production and quality targets.
- Support general production and machine operation tasks as needed, including basic quality control checks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and promptly report any equipment or safety issues.
Required Skills
- At least 6 months of experience using hand and power tools, including hammers, nail guns, wrenches, reciprocating saws, and chop saws.
- At least 6 months of experience in a heavy industrial production or general labor environment.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately down to 1/8 of an inch and in centimeters.
- Comfort using a measuring tape in both imperial and metric units.
- Basic math skills to support measuring, counting, and simple calculations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive lifting of 15–30 lbs.
- Willingness and ability to work a rotating continental schedule with 12-hour shifts, including days and nights.
- Ability to work safely with hand and power tools, heavy materials, and industrial machinery.
- Comfort working in a noisy, hot or cold industrial environment while wearing required personal protective equipment.

Work Environment
The role is based at an industrial manufacturing site in Abbotsford, British Columbia, operating as a union facility. The environment can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with a constant humming noise from machines; earplugs are required and provided. You will work as part of a team of about 16 people per shift and may work with a partner or independently, depending on the task. The position follows a continental shift pattern with 12-hour shifts, rotating every two weeks between days (8:00 . to 8:00 and nights (8:00 . to 8:00 . The typical rotation includes working Monday, Tuesday, off Wednesday and Thursday, then working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in one week, followed by working Wednesday and Thursday the next week and having the weekend off. Over a two-week period, you work 84 hours, with 80 hours paid at the regular rate and 4 hours paid at double time, with additional overtime opportunities available. The facility uses heavy industrial equipment, including production machines, overhead cranes, forklifts, and various hand and power tools. The dress code requires steel toe work boots and the use of provided ear protection, eye protection, and gloves as needed. Employees may wear coveralls if they choose, though these are not provided. Union dues include a one-time initial fee and ongoing monthly dues, which are deducted from pay and can be spread over several months for the initial fee
