solving complex building envelope and structural-related issues, extending asset life, and providing practical, cost-effective solutions for building rehabilitation and adaptive reuse projects.As part of a collaborative engineering and technical consulting environment, you will work alongside engineers, architects, and specialists to assess building conditions, investigate performance issues, and guide clients through repair and restoration strategies that improve long-term building performance, resilience, and value.
Role OverviewThis position is centered on the
assessment and rehabilitation of existing buildings, with a strong emphasis on building envelope systems, including roofs, walls, windows, and foundations.Projects may include:
- Residential, multi-residential, commercial, and institutional buildings
- Building envelope restoration and rehabilitation
- Adaptive reuse and change-of-use projects
- Condition assessments and capital planning for aging assets
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in both
field and office environments, engaging directly with clients, contractors, and construction teams while providing clear technical direction and recommendations.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage building science project delivery, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality expectations are met
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers/technologists
- Conduct field investigations, site reviews, and building condition assessments
- Perform leak investigations and diagnostics of building envelope systems (roofs, walls, windows, foundations)
- Prepare Reserve Fund Studies and Capital Expenditure Plans
- Develop repair strategies, rehabilitation recommendations, and technical reports
- Prepare specifications, drawings, and tender documentation
- Provide contract administration and construction review services
- Coordinate with contractors, clients, manufacturers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Review technical deliverables and provide quality assurance prior to client submission
- Support proposal development and contribute to business development activities
- Identify project opportunities through established and developing client relationships
- Assist in preparing proposals, quotations, and technical submissions
- Participate in site measurements, documentation, and interpretation of existing conditions
- Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of technical standards and practices
- Ensure compliance with project specifications through on-site quality control and review
Qualifications- Degree in Engineering (Building Science, Civil, Structural, or Architectural focus preferred)
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Quebec (OIQ registration required)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in building science, consulting engineering, or building rehabilitation
- Strong knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and systems
- Experience in condition assessments, building envelope investigations, and rehabilitation projects
- Previous consulting engineering experience considered an asset
- Strong leadership and mentoring capability

Work Environment & RequirementsThis role involves a mix of
office and field work, including construction and building site environments.Responsibilities may require:
- Working at heights (ladders, lifts, roofs, swing stages)
- Walking uneven or sloped surfaces
- Climbing, crouching, bending, and accessing confined areas (e.g., attics)
- Occasional lifting (up to ~50 lbs)
- Use of a personal vehicle for site visits
Additional requirements:
- Approximately 30% local travel
- Occasional overtime or after-hours work depending on project demands
