Job Title: Software Engineer – C#
Job Description
This role focuses on designing and developing middleware and integration software for communication systems supporting a major government program. You will build robust software interfaces between backend web services and network devices in a complex multi-network environment, contributing to one of the largest naval communication programs in Canadian history.
Responsibilities
- Develop middleware and integration components on Windows platforms to support communication systems for naval applications.
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs, including RESTful services, to support device management, monitoring, and configuration.
- Develop software that operates reliably in complex, multi-network environments with multiple communication paths and protocols.
- Apply object-oriented design and programming principles in C# and to create maintainable, scalable, and secure software solutions.
- Collaborate closely with systems and hardware engineering teams to resolve technical issues and ensure seamless integration between software and hardware components.
- Conduct independent research to investigate new technologies, tools, and approaches, and propose innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and documentation to communicate design decisions, system behavior, and implementation details to stakeholders.
- Implement asynchronous and multithreaded programming techniques to build high-performance, responsive, and resilient software.
- Work with messaging technologies and event-driven architectures to support real-time communication and data exchange between systems.
- Use networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and network troubleshooting, to diagnose and resolve communication issues.
- Ensure software quality and reliability through testing, debugging, and continuous improvement of existing components.
Essential Skills
- 7+ years of software development experience in object-oriented design and programming using C# and .
- Proficiency in developing middleware and integration solutions on Windows platforms.
- Experience with client-server architectures and networking protocols, including SNMP, WebSocket, and the TCP/IP stack.
- Hands-on experience working with SNMP for device management, monitoring, or configuration.
- Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and network troubleshooting.
- Experience developing backend services and APIs, including REST APIs, in .NET Core or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency in asynchronous and multithreaded programming to build high-performance and responsive applications.
- Experience with messaging technologies and event-driven architectures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with systems and hardware engineering teams on technical issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct independent research and propose new solutions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with .NET Core for building modern, cross-platform backend services.
- Familiarity with microservices architectures and distributed systems.
- Exposure to Linux environments in addition to Windows-based development.
- Experience with C++ for systems-level or performance-critical components.
- Ability to prepare and deliver clear technical presentations and documentation for diverse technical audiences.
- Interest in working on defense-related communication systems and large-scale naval programs.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
