Oracle APEX/ORDS Software Developer

Our Client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Oracle APEX/ORDS Software Developer to support a major application modernization and evergreening initiative.

The project involves upgrading five business-critical applications currently built on Oracle Database, Oracle APEX, Oracle REST Data Services, and Red Hat Linux. The goal is to replace end-of-life technical components, improve security and compliance, and support a future cloud-hosted environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain web applications using Oracle APEX.
• Develop and manage RESTful APIs using Oracle REST Data Services.
• Translate technical specifications and business requirements into working, tested applications.
• Prepare detailed programming specifications and technical documentation.
• Develop database-driven applications using SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle database technologies.
• Participate in requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and production support.
• Assess the current state of legacy applications and recommend a supported future-state architecture.
• Support application migrations, platform upgrades, conversions, and evergreening activities.
• Identify and resolve application, database, API, performance, and infrastructure issues.
• Optimize application and database performance.
• Apply web application security and Oracle APEX security best practices.
• Conduct unit testing, design walkthroughs, knowledge-transfer sessions, and post-implementation support.
• Maintain project activities, tasks, and deliverables through Kanban or Azure DevOps boards.
• Develop user guides, system documentation, technical procedures, and operational support materials.
• Ensure solutions align with AODA accessibility requirements and Ontario government standards.

Mandatory Technical Experience

Candidates must have 10+ years of relevant application development experience, including strong hands-on expertise in:

• Oracle APEX application design and development
• Advanced Oracle APEX capabilities, including:
  • Interactive reports
  • Charts and dashboards
  • Dynamic actions
  • Forms and workflows
  • Shared components
• Oracle REST Data Services
• RESTful API design, development, integration, and testing
• Oracle Database
• SQL and PL/SQL development
• Relational data modelling and database design
• HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web technologies
• Full Software Development Life Cycle delivery
• Application security and secure web development practices
• Application and database performance tuning
• Legacy application assessment and modernization
• Production troubleshooting and post-implementation support

Cloud and Infrastructure Experience

• Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is required.
• Experience supporting cloud migration or cloud-hosted Oracle applications is strongly preferred.
• Experience with Red Hat Linux environments is considered an asset.
• Experience with middleware, gateways, installation scripts, upgrades, and migration activities is preferred.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Extensive Oracle APEX development experience.
• Experience with advanced APEX components such as interactive reports, charts, and dynamic actions.
• Strong Oracle REST Data Services experience.
• Experience creating RESTful APIs that access and manipulate Oracle database data.
• Strong Oracle Database, SQL, PL/SQL, and data-modelling experience.
• Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
• Experience assessing legacy applications and recommending future-state solutions.
