Senior Project Manager – Major Building Construction
Location: Edmonton, AB
Compensation: base salary, profit sharing, 6% RRSP match, strong benefits, 4 weeks’ vacation + Christmas closure
A major Canadian general contractor is looking to add a Senior Project Manager to its Edmonton team for a large-scale institutional building project valued at $100M+.
This is a senior delivery role for someone who has already managed complex building construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The successful candidate will bring strong commercial judgment, owner-facing confidence, and the ability to lead internal teams, consultants, subcontractors, and site leadership through the full project lifecycle.
This is not an owner-side, developer-side, civil-only, or industrial-only role. The key requirement is clear: you must have project management experience with a general contractor on major building construction projects.
The Opportunity
You will take a leadership role on a high-profile institutional project in Edmonton, working with an established construction team and a strong project delivery framework behind you.
This role is well-suited to a Senior Project Manager who enjoys being close to the work: managing schedule, budget, client communication, subcontractor performance, change management, project reporting, and the overall commercial success of a major build.
You will be responsible for driving the project forward while supporting a team that may include Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Superintendents, consultants, and trade partners.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will lead the delivery of a major building project, including:
-
Managing the project from preconstruction through construction, closeout, and warranty
-
Leading client, consultant, and subcontractor communication
-
Overseeing budget, forecasting, billing, change management, and project profitability
-
Working closely with the Superintendent to manage schedule, critical path, and look-aheads
-
Reviewing RFIs, change orders, subcontracts, scopes of work, and project documentation
-
Leading project meetings and maintaining clear reporting on risks, schedule, cost, and quality
-
Mentoring and supporting project staff
-
Ensuring safety, quality, environmental, and contractual requirements are met
What We’re Looking For
The main requirement is experience delivering building projects for a general contractor.
Strong candidates will bring:
-
Senior Project Manager or experienced Project Manager background with a general contractor
-
Proven experience on commercial, institutional, civic, healthcare, education, recreation, or other major building projects
-
Experience managing large, complex projects, ideally in the $100M+ range
-
Strong understanding of contracts, subcontracts, project financials, scheduling, RFIs, change orders, and closeout
-
Ability to work with owners, consultants, trades, superintendents, and internal leadership
-
Confidence leading meetings, managing risk, and making decisions in a fast-paced project environment
-
Familiarity with tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Procore/Plangrid, SAP, or similar platforms is an asset
Compensation & Benefits
The package includes:
-
Base salary
-
Profit sharing program
-
6% RRSP matching
-
4 weeks’ vacation
-
Additional Christmas closure week
-
Full benefits
-
Free parking
-
Health/wellness spending support
-
Strong dental and prescription coverage
Who This Is Best For
This is a strong fit for someone who has built their career with general contractors and wants to play a senior role on a major Edmonton building project.
You may currently be a Senior Project Manager, Project Manager ready for a larger mandate, or a major-project construction leader looking for a long-term opportunity with a respected national contractor.
If your background is in general contracting and building construction, we would be interested in speaking with you.
