Job Title: CMM Programmer

Job Description

This role focuses on programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) using Calypso software to inspect manufactured parts, components, and fixtures. The CMM Programmer ensures measurement accuracy, generates detailed inspection reports, and supports broader quality assurance activities, including final inspection and training junior inspectors and programmers.

Responsibilities

  • Run and modify CMM programs using Calypso software to measure manufactured parts, components, checking fixtures, and other requested objects.
  • Use existing 3D computer models or create new models from paper drawings when needed to support accurate CMM programming and inspection.
  • Provide CMM data reports in the requested formats and ensure the accuracy and completeness of all measurement data.
  • Identify and document unacceptable or inferior quality materials, discuss findings with internal and external stakeholders, and support corrective actions.
  • Approve in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and dimensional measurement tests, and communicating required adjustments to production supervision.
  • Document inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizing rework and waste, and entering data into the quality database.
  • Keep measurement equipment operating effectively by following operating instructions and coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established standards and procedures and complying with applicable regulations.
  • Stay current with industry practices and technologies by participating in educational opportunities and reading relevant technical publications.
  • Support the broader quality and organizational goals by completing related tasks and projects as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous quality assurance activities when not programming the CMM, including supporting final inspection and training junior inspectors and programmers.
  • Generate First Article Inspection (FAI) Reports in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) documents to support ongoing process monitoring and improvement.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with CMM operations, quality control, and Calypso software.
  • Proficiency in CMM programming, including running and modifying programs for complex parts and fixtures.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with calibration practices related to measurement equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Hands-on experience in inspection, quality control, and quality assurance activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail with a methodical and organized work style.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage tasks independently.
  • Capability to handle stress, pressure, and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Good time management skills to prioritize multiple inspection and reporting tasks.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret data, identify issues, and recommend solutions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using quality engineering techniques and tools related to inspection processes.
  • Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
  • Experience generating and maintaining SPC documentation.
  • Ability to train junior inspectors and programmers in CMM operations and quality procedures.
