Job DescriptionMicrosoft Purview Engineer – Data Governance, Compliance & Information Protection
Role Summary
• Responsible for implementing, configuring, and managing Microsoft Purview to enable enterprise-wide data governance, data discovery, classification, compliance, and risk management across Microsoft 365, Azure, and hybrid data sources.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Catalog
• Implement Microsoft Purview Data Catalog for structured and unstructured data.
• Configure scans for Azure, on-premises, and SaaS data sources.
• Build and maintain business glossary, metadata management, and lineage.
• Enable data discovery and self-service analytics across the organization.
Information Protection & Compliance
• Configure and manage Sensitivity Labels (MIP).
• Implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies across M365 workloads.
• Support Insider Risk Management, eDiscovery (Standard/Premium), and Audit.
• Assist with regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, ISO, SOX, etc.).
Security Risk Management
• Configure Communication Compliance and Information Governance.
• Monitor compliance posture using Purview Compliance Portal.
• Collaborate with Security and Legal teams on investigations and holds.
Integration & Automation
• Integrate Purview with Azure AD, Defender, Sentinel, and Power Platform.
• Automate scans, labeling, and reports using PowerShell and Graph API.
• Support hybrid environments and third-party integrations.
Operations & Reporting
• Monitor scan health, classification accuracy, and policy enforcement.
• Generate compliance and governance reports for stakeholders.
• Document governance processes, standards, and best practices.
• Provide L2/L3 support and mentorship.

Technical Skills
• Microsoft Purview (Data Governance & Compliance).
• Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
• Sensitivity Labels.
• DLP.
• Azure Data Services (ADLS, SQL, Synapse).
• PowerShell scripting.
• Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
Governance & Compliance Knowledge
• Data classification frameworks.
• Regulatory standards (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
• Records Management.
• Retention policies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Microsoft Certifications.
• SC400 (Information Protection Compliance).
• SC300 / SC100 (Identity Security Architect).
• Experience with Purview Unified Catalog.
• Knowledge of Defender XDR and Sentinel SIEM.
• Experience in large, regulated enterprises.
