Job description

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to Manager, Anti-Money Laundering, the Anti-Money Laundering (‘AML’) Oversight & Quality Assurance (‘QA’) Analyst will join Canadian Tire Bank's (‘CTB’) AML team and will play a key role in helping CTB to detect, prevent, and report money laundering, terrorist financing and/or sanction evasions activities.

The incumbent is primarily responsible for performing independent quality assurance (QA) reviews of completed investigations, validating the appropriateness of decisions, and ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and internal policies & procedures. The role also involves submitting Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to FINTRAC, where required, and providing subject matter expertise and guidance to investigators on complex cases. In addition, the incumbent may participate in various AML/ATF projects and initiatives as part of this role, and also serves as a key feedback mechanism by identifying gaps, recommending improvements, and enhancing investigative quality and effectiveness across the AML program.

If you are passionate about AML, this role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Bank’s AML team and to contribute to the Bank’s AML/ATF/Sanctions program while having an opportunity to grow and develop professionally, expand your knowledge, and broaden your AML/ATF/Sanctions subject-matter expertise.

  • Perform independent QA reviews of completed AML investigations including but not limited to Transaction Monitoring, Name Screening, EDD etc. to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Assess whether investigative decisions are well-supported, risk-based, and appropriately documented, including escalation and disposition outcomes.

  • Review and submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and other regulatory filings to FINTRAC, ensuring submissions are timely, accurate, and meet regulatory standards.

  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to investigators, highlighting areas for improvement and reinforcing best practices.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for AML investigations, offering guidance on complex or high-risk cases, typologies, and regulatory expectations.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending enhancements to investigation procedures, QA methodologies, workflows, and training materials.

  • Analyze trends from QA findings to identify systemic issues, emerging risks, and opportunities to strengthen controls.

  • Contribute to the development of training content, job aids, and best practice guidance to improve overall team capability.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AML/ATF/Sanctions regulations, FINTRAC requirements, and emerging financial crime typologies.

  • Collaborate, develop and foster relationships internally within the AML team and with other departments and cross-functional teams in the organization to address AML/ATF-related issues and to ensure a holistic approach to compliance and risk management.

  • Participate in AML-related projects, initiatives, and program enhancements as required.

  • Undertake any other AML/ATF/Sanctions-related duties and responsibilities as assigned, based on business needs and evolving regulatory requirements.

What You Bring:

  • 3+ years of experience in AML/ATF/Sanctions within the financial services industry, with a strong focus on AML investigations, quality assurance/oversight, and regulatory reporting (including STR submissions to FINTRAC).

  • Demonstrated experience in performing independent reviews of completed investigations, with the ability to assess quality, accuracy, and alignment to regulatory expectations and internal policies.

  • Strong understanding of Canadian AML/ATF regulatory requirements, including FINTRAC guidelines, reporting obligations, and industry best practices.

  • Proven ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance and support on complex or high-risk AML investigations and typologies.

  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to assess large volumes of data, identify risk indicators, and make sound, risk-based decisions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, with a focus on ensuring completeness and accuracy in investigations and regulatory reporting.

  • Experience in providing feedback, coaching, and training to investigators to drive continuous improvement in investigative quality.

  • Ability to identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for enhancement, and recommend practical, risk-based solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate findings, document rationale, and prepare high-quality regulatory reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with an objective mindset, manage competing priorities, and deliver results within established timelines.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.

  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships across teams and functions.

  • Proficiency with AML systems, case management tools, and data analysis techniques is an asset.

  • Relevant professional certification such as CAMS, CFCS, or equivalent is preferred (or willingness to obtain).

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to support a broad range of AML/ATF/Sanctions-related activities as required in line with business and regulatory needs.

Location: Oakville, Ontario (Hybrid: In-office 4 days a week)

We’re always looking for great talent! In addition to competitive pay, we offer:

  • Comprehensive benefits and retirement programs

  • Performance incentives, Continuing Education Programs
