THRIVE Child Development Centre is seeking new Directors for Board of Directors.

About THRIVE:

At THRIVE Child Development Centre / THRIVE Centre de développement de l’enfant, we understand that each child is unique and encourage individual choice, family involvement and personal growth. Our vision is a Centre of Excellence where the child's goals toward independence are the shared focus for all services and supports. Our staff function as a professional team who are dedicated and committed to continuous "state-of-the-art" and quality service to ensure every child reaches beyond what is expected to their personal extraordinary. Our culture of optimism and helping others permeates our organization, making this the ideal place to work.

THRIVE is one of Ontario’s twenty‑one charitable, non‑profit children's treatment centres, offering a broad range of community‑based rehabilitation, developmental and related support services to over 1200 children and their families residing in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma. Their diversities span the physical, perceptual, communication, developmental and neurodevelopmental domains. Our integrated range of services and supports recognizes the changing physical, emotional and psychological aspects of a child's development.

As Algoma’s pre‑eminent pediatric rehabilitation and development leader, we rely on an engaged & active Board of Directors to lead our growth and development. The Board currently oversees the activities of its 2022‑2025 Strategic Plan.

The Governance Role:

THRIVE’s Board of Directors is comprised of 9 volunteer members who reflect the geographic and demographic diversity of the Algoma District. Membership on the Board of Directors is drawn widely to achieve the balance of skills and expertise required to enable the Board to fulfil its governance responsibilities.

Our Board of Directors meets on the last Tuesday of each month from September through June. Meetings take place in the Centre and begin at 5:00 pm, usually lasting about 1 ½ to 2 hours. Our Annual Meeting takes place in October; the Directors do not meet over July and August. The term of office for Directors is 3 years with the opportunity to continue for a second 3‑year term.

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of the organization;
  • An ability to function in the best interests of the organization and as such, act honestly and in good faith;
  • Care and diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent person would exercise in comparable circumstances;

  • A commitment to the time required to prepare for and attend Board and Committee meetings,
