Job description

Scandinavian Building Services has been a Canadian leader in retail and commercial cleaning for the last 60 years. Starting as a small family owned and operated business in Edmonton Alberta in 1982 to offering full service janitorial and building maintenance across Canada today. As we continue to grow we are looking to add a Health and Safety Specialist to the Scandi Family!

Located at the Edmonton Head Office-Hybrid 3 days in office, 2 days remote

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with a 1-hour lunch (30 minutes paid and 30 minutes unpaid) with required flexibility to respond to the needs of the business which could include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What your day to day will look like:

You will be reporting into the Health and Safety Manager

Health & Safety Program Management

  • Develop, review, update, and maintain Health & Safety policies, programs, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and Emergency Response Plans
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements
  • Conduct legislative reviews and implement updates

COR Audit & Compliance Management

  • Lead internal COR audit processes
  • Coordinate maintenance and certification audits
  • Conduct site visits, interviews, and documentation validation

Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop automated reporting systems
  • Produce KPI, board, and compliance reports
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity

Systems & Technology Administration

  • Administer BIS Safety Software and SharePoint
  • Manage user access and system updates
  • Support workflow automation

Systems & Technology Administration

Training, Orientation & Communications

  • Deliver orientations and coordinate training
  • Maintain training records
  • Develop safety communications

Client & Contractor Compliance Platforms

  • Manage Avetta, ISN, and Contractor/Check systems
  • Complete compliance updates and reporting

Documentation & Content Management

  • Maintain documents, SharePoint, and websites
  • Manage document control processes

Audit, Investigation & Legal Support

  • Maintain audit and investigation records
  • Support legal and compliance requests

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Coordinate safety materials and records
  • Support RFPs and communications

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Implement process improvements and automation
  • Support program expansion initiatives

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Post-secondary education in Health & Safety or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in Health & Safety
  • Experience with COR audits preferred
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with safety systems and data tools
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently

Travel Requirements

This role requires approximately 20% of travel.

Our interview process:

  • 20 minute preliminary phone interview with our Recruiter
  • 20-40 minute assessment (depending on optional practice questions or breaks)
  • 30 minute MS Teams video interview with the Hiring Manager and direct Supervisor for the role
