Unit Summary
Communications & Public Affairs staff members are responsible for the formal internal and external communications programs at Hamilton Health Sciences, serving as communications advisors to the hospital and its leadership. The department’s responsibilities include internal communications, digital/social media strategy and communications, media relations, issues and crisis management, community and government relations, web development, event planning, corporate publications, brand development and management, and marketing.
Position Summary
The Communications Advisor will provide strategic communications expertise and support to advance the goals and objectives of Hamilton Health Sciences’ research and innovation enterprise. Specifically, those responsibilities will include: implementing and evaluating communications plans and campaigns that showcase research excellence, partnerships, and impact; supporting the development and execution of digital and social media strategies related to research and innovation; pursuing, curating and developing content for internal and external channels that highlight researchers, discoveries, and collaborations; supporting proactive media relations activities related to research initiatives, announcements, and subject-matter experts; and coordinating and executing events and announcements that elevate the organization’s research and innovation profile. The Communications Advisor will assist in the development and implementation of communications plans aligned with the strategic priorities of Research & Innovation and consistent with the vision, mission and values of Hamilton Health Sciences.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday; days (Flexibility to work after hours, on weekends and on call)
Qualifications
1. University Degree and a Degree/Diploma in communications or other academic preparation in combination with relevant experience
2. Minimum five (5) years experience in public affairs/public relations, government affairs or journalism
3. Exceptional writing ability
4. Evident commitment to learning
5. Evident track record of success working in an interdisciplinary team
6. Demonstrated excellence in communication, team building, and the ability to initiate and model positive change
7. Strong creative and design skills
8. Demonstrated success in event planning
9. Demonstrated goal-oriented approach with a proven ability to achieve results in a complex, fast-paced environment
10. Web experience an asset
11. Experience and knowledge of health services, health care and research and innovation an asset
12. Media relations experience an asset
