Main Purpose and Function
The Child Care Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation, administration, and pedagogical leadership of Britannia at East 7th, a 25-space licensed child care program serving children ages 3 to 5 years. Reporting to the Manager of Child Care Services, the Supervisor provides leadership to educators while supporting the delivery of a high-quality early learning program grounded in the BC Early Learning Framework, Indigenous ways of knowing and being, and inclusive practice.
This is a blended leadership position that includes both administrative responsibilities and direct work with children. The Supervisor is expected to spend a portion of their work week completing administrative, supervisory, and operational duties, while also working directly in ratio with children and educators to support program delivery, curriculum implementation, and responsive relationships with children and families.
The Supervisor exercises independent judgment in carrying out program responsibilities and works collaboratively with children, families, educators, community partners, and external professionals to create a welcoming and inclusive early learning environment.
The CC Supervisor reports to the Child Care Program Coordinator and Manager of Child Care Services.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and support educators, students, and volunteers.
- Foster a collaborative culture of reflection, inquiry, and continuous learning among the educator team.
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, enrolment, and daily operations.
- Maintain records, reports, registrations, and licensing requirements.
- Monitor program budgets and coordinate purchasing of supplies and equipment.
- Build positive relationships with families, community partners, and external professionals.
- Contribute to the development of a program culture that values inclusion, equity, reconciliation, and meaningful relationships.
- Work directly with children and educators within ratio.
- Support the development of responsive, play-based learning experiences that reflect children's interests, strengths, and identities.
- Foster environments that promote belonging, wellbeing, engagement, and expression in alignment with the BC Early Learning Framework.
- Use observation, reflection, and pedagogical documentation to inform curriculum planning and support children's learning.
- Promote inclusive practices that honour Indigenous perspectives and the diverse cultures, experiences, and abilities of children and families.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Minimum two to three years of related experience.
- Experience working with children ages 3–5 years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for children ages 3–5 years.
- Knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework, licensing regulations, and inclusive child care practices.
- Knowledge of Indigenous perspectives and cultural safety in early learning environments.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and support educators and students.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate engaging learning experiences.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
