Plant Operator - (chemical manufacturing experience required)
Overview
Our client is seeking a skilled Plant Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of a chemical manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will possess a diverse technical skill set, including experience working with industrial chemicals and operating process equipment in a manufacturing environment.
The Plant Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring production systems, supporting plant startup and commissioning activities, troubleshooting process issues, and ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This role requires a strong safety-first mindset, technical aptitude, and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor manufacturing and process equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Control and monitor production processes to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Support commissioning and startup activities for new equipment and production systems.
- Perform routine plant operations while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and production standards.
- Troubleshoot process and equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
- Safely handle industrial chemicals in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
- Read, understand, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), schematics, process flow diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Monitor process parameters and make operational adjustments to maintain product quality and process stability.
- Record production data, process readings, and operational activities accurately.
- Prepare and manage chemical batches as required.
- Utilize process control systems, including SCADA and HMI platforms, to monitor and control plant operations.
- Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and systems to identify abnormalities and ensure reliable operation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in training programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Strong safety-first mindset.
- High school diploma with a basic understanding of chemistry.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in chemical manufacturing or industrial plant operations.
- Experience operating and monitoring process equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Solid math and technical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with chemical processing, water treatment, or related industrial operations.
- Hands-on experience with SCADA or HMI systems such as Ignition.
- Previous exposure to commissioning or startup of industrial facilities.
- Experience working with acids, bases, and chemical batch preparation.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting and maintaining industrial process equipment.
- Experience working in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Work Environment
This position operates on a rotating shift schedule and requires flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
Day Shift
- Monday to Thursday
- 5:45 AM to 6:00 PM
Night Shift
- Monday to Thursday
- 5:45 PM to 6:00 AM
Additional details:
- 11.75 hours paid per shift, including one paid 30-minute break.
- Rotation consists of one set on days followed by one set on nights.
- Overtime is paid after 12 hours worked in a day at 2x regular pay.
- Overtime is paid after 80 hours worked in a fortnight at 1.5x regular pay.
