Bricklayers construct, repair and finish walls, chimneys and other masonry structures using brick, block and stone. They interpret drawings, prepare mortar and ensure work meets quality and safety standards.

Main Duties
- Lay bricks, concrete blocks and stone according to plans, specifications and established lines and levels.
- Mix, apply and finish mortar and other bonding materials to ensure proper adhesion and joint quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and layout marks to determine work sequences and measurements.
- Build, repair and restore masonry structures such as walls, chimneys, arches and facades.
- Set up and work safely on scaffolding, ladders and temporary supports; maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Inspect finished work, perform pointing and finishing, and complete remedial repairs to meet quality standards.
Requirements
- Completion of a bricklaying apprenticeship, trade school program, or equivalent practical experience in masonry.
- Minimum two years of hands-on experience in bricklaying or related masonry work.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, levels and basic specifications.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and perform repetitive manual tasks in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with the safe use and maintenance of masonry hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices and ability to follow site safety procedures.

- Proficient masonry techniques for bricklaying, blockwork, cutting and shaping materials.
- Mortar mixing and material handling with attention to correct proportions and curing.
- Blueprint and technical drawing reading with accurate measurement and layout skills.
- Safe operation and maintenance of masonry hand and power tools.
- Time management and ability to prioritize tasks to meet project schedules.
- Attention to detail and quality control for alignment, joints and surface finishes.
