Position Information Position Title Senior Development Officer - Major Gifts and Planned Giving Posting Type Permanent End Date (if applicable) Classification Title Administration 09 Pay Band 9 Min Salary $79,841 Max Salary $99,801 Position Summary Under the direction of the Director, and working closely with the Advancement and Alumni team, the Senior Development Officer provides leadership to identify and implement short and long range strategic partnerships and plans with Confederation College’s philanthropic partners, focused on philanthropic revenue generation of $25+K, volunteerism, sponsorships and student engagement.
The Senior Development Officer – Major Gifts and Planned Giving plays a critical role in developing and stewarding Confederation College relationships; in securing private sector gifts ; in advancing fundraising strategies and programs; and in managing/orientating senior volunteers. The Senior Development Officer – Major Gifts and Planned Giving will work closely with staff, faculty members, alumni and volunteers to plan, coordinate, manage, implement, and evaluate fundraising projects. The Senior Development Officer may manage Faculty specific or college-wide fundraising initiatives, and special projects.
Responsibilities include: - Identifying, researching and cultivating strategic relationships with partners for the purpose of philanthropic engagement
- Drafting proposals, correspondence and supporting documentation for gift solicitations in support of Confederation College – wide funding priorities
- Identifying and recommending donor naming and recognition opportunities in alignment with approved policies
- Identifying and assisting with the enlistment of the key volunteers for philanthropic purposes
- Enlisting expert program/area and industry leaders as advocates for priority philanthropic activities, as required
- Maintaining relations and stewardship of existing donors;
- Assisting with the coordination of gift activities, with emphasis on a moves management method;
- Provide regular oral and written reports on all areas of major gift fundraising, with a strong public relations focus
- Finding opportunities to align Confederation College activities with corporations’ corporate responsibility mandates and community engagement priorities.

- Familiar with trends in fundraising and development
- Comprehensive understanding of Advancement principles including capital campaigns, planned giving, major gifts, legacy gifts, etc.
- Effective project management and leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for making presentations, meeting with donors, prospects, writing reports, preparing proposals and documentation.
- Excellent relationship builder with exceptional networking, listening and negotiating skills.
- Reliable analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong prospect research skills.
- Effective organizational and time management skills – ability to prioritize high volume workload, handle multiple task assignments/responsibilities and meet critical deadlines.
- Proficient with computer applications (MS Office Suite) and fundraising software (Raiser’s Edge).
Field(s) of Study Three-year diploma/degree in a relevant field such as Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or programs that focus on Fundraising, Development and/or Advancement. CFRE designation an asset. - A minimum of five years of progressively responsible career experience in fundraising and donor prospecting.
- Demonstrated ability to build philanthropic relations with small businesses, individuals, foundations and corporations thorough individual and group meeting and activities.
- Experience with prospect research tools and techniques.
- Ability to manage a portfolio of prospects with demonstrated success building relationships, motivating, influencing donors.
- Experience with managing projects and fundraising campaigns, including supervision of volunteers.
