Course description:
This course examines cross-cultural language use by second language learners from both a theoretical and pedagogical perspective. Topics addressed include the role of pragmatic transfer between native and target languages, individual differences, learning context, and instruction in the development of second language pragmatic competence.

Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,997.48 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $10,699.22 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,699.22 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,953.96 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III - $10,953.96 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $11,228.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications:
Native or near-native fluency in French is required.
Specialization in second language education or applied linguistics is required.
Mastery of the subject material (the teaching and learning of cross-cultural communication) is required.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in this course or a similar course is preferred.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
Description of duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
