Senior Project Engineer

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $135,900 – $158,655 CAD annually, plus annual performance bonus

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead and oversee the technical coordination of utility-scale renewable energy projects across North America. This role supports projects from early-stage development through construction and commissioning, with a focus on solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind energy projects.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, project leadership experience, and a passion for advancing clean energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead preliminary collection system, substation, transmission, electrical, and civil design activities for assigned projects.
• Coordinate engineering studies including geotechnical investigations, LiDAR surveys, hydrology assessments, and electrical analyses.
• Participate in project review processes and support project development milestones.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison among Development, Permitting, Interconnection, Estimating, Procurement, Resource Assessment, and Project Management teams.
• Manage third-party engineering consultants and ensure alignment with project objectives and technical standards.
• Support technology evaluations, equipment selection, and project cost development efforts.
• Collaborate with permitting teams to ensure project designs satisfy regulatory requirements.
• Conduct site visits and assess constructability considerations during project development.

EPC Design Execution

• Support preparation of EPC contractor RFP packages.
• Facilitate engineering coordination during project transition from development to construction.
• Review EPC schedules of values and project deliverables.
• Manage RFIs and coordinate design submissions at 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC stages.
• Coordinate engineering reviews with subject matter experts and construction teams.
• Review detailed civil, structural, and electrical engineering packages for quality, compliance, and constructability.

Construction Support

• Partner with EPC managers and site teams to resolve technical issues and RFIs.
• Review contractor change orders and engineering-related modifications.
• Support technical due diligence reviews performed by independent engineers and project stakeholders.
• Identify design optimization opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.
• Develop engineering procedures, standards, and best practices.
• Solve complex technical challenges and share lessons learned across the organization.
• Document project learnings and support continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of experience supporting renewable energy projects.
• At least 2 years of experience serving as a Project Engineer.
• Strong understanding of utility-scale solar, energy storage, and/or wind technologies.
• Knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and industry best practices.
• Experience with AutoCAD, ETAP, and other power system analysis tools.
• Familiarity with renewable energy software such as PVSyst, PVCase, or System Advisor Model (SAM) is preferred.
• Strong technical communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
• Proactive, adaptable, and self-motivated.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience reviewing civil, structural, and electrical engineering designs.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Hybrid work arrangement based in the Montreal area.
• Approximately 80% office-based work and 20% field visits.
• Occasional travel to project sites across North America for project assessments, stakeholder meetings, and construction support.
