Job description

Total Rewards Specialist
Location: Remote work available in Vancouver, Prince George, or Remote within BC/Alberta
Salary Range: $78,000 - $115,000

At Drax, we’re working to create a more sustainable future through renewable energy, and our people are central to that work.

In Canada, we’re building a high-performing, modern HR function to better support our operations. We’re looking for a Total Rewards Specialist to join our team and take ownership of how benefits and total rewards are delivered across the country.

Reporting to the HR Director, Canada, you’ll work closely with the Canadian HR Team, the North America Reward Director in the US, and the broader Total Rewards team in the UK. While you’ll have that global connection and support, you’ll be the dedicated Total Rewards lead for Canada.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys streamlining processes, improving how things are done, and working in an environment where they can make a visible impact.

About the Role
You will be responsible for delivering and continuously improving total rewards programs across Canada, with a strong focus on benefits administration and employee experience.

You’ll manage the day-to-day delivery of benefits, disability processes, and total rewards support, while also contributing to compensation activities and broader initiatives. You will work closely with employees, leaders, vendors, and HR partners to ensure our programs are well-run, clearly understood, and aligned with business needs.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment. Priorities can shift, and there is a steady flow of work across multiple areas. You’ll need to be comfortable working independently, managing details, and identifying opportunities to improve processes along the way.

For the right person, this is a chance to take full ownership of Total Rewards in Canada and help shape how the function grows

Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration (Core Focus)

  • You will handle highly sensitive employee information at times, prioritizing sensitivity, care, and confidentiality
  • Own the end-to-end administration of employee benefits programs, including health, dental, life insurance, disability, and RRSP plans
  • Lead the annual benefits enrolment process, including communications, system setup, and employee support
  • Act as the primary contact for employee benefits questions, providing clear and timely support
  • Manage employee lifecycle changes such as enrolments, updates, and terminations
  • Partner with vendors to resolve issues, ensure service quality, and maintain accurate records
  • Review processes and identify opportunities to improve the employee experience

Compensation & Total Rewards Support

  • Support annual compensation processes, including merit and bonus cycles
  • Assist with job evaluations, salary benchmarking, and compensation analysis
  • Provide data and insights to support hiring decisions and internal equity reviews

Total Rewards Programs & Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of total rewards programs in Canada
  • Support initiatives that improve consistency, clarity, and effectiveness of rewards offerings
  • Partner with global teams to align on frameworks while adapting for Canadian requirements
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve how work gets done

Disability and Leave Support

  • Coordinate short-term and long-term disability processes, including documentation and tracking
  • Support leaders and employees through the administrative side of disability-related matters
  • Ensure timely follow-up and accurate record-keeping

Compliance, Reporting and Documentation

  • Ensure programs comply with Canadian legislation and company policies
  • Maintain accurate records and support reporting requirements
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation for processes and employee communications

A Typical Week in This Role
In a typical week, you might be responding to employee benefits questions on a daily basis, coordinating with a provider on a claim, reviewing enrolment data, supporting a compensation request, and working on improvements to how information is shared with employees.

You’ll move between detailed administrative work and broader improvements, often managing several priorities at the same time.

What You Bring
Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline CCP, CEBS, CPHR, or SHRM designation is considered a strong asset

Experience & Expertise

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, or total rewards
  • Demonstrated experience in Canadian group benefits (health, dental, STD/LTD) and RRSP plans
  • Experience managing benefits enrolment cycles and vendor relationships
  • Exposure to compensation processes and/or disability administration is a strong asset
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, including advanced Excel proficiency and experience with HRIS systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail – you catch what others miss

How You Work
You’re someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing a steady flow of detailed work. You take ownership of your area and are confident working independently while staying connected to a broader team.

You’re highly organized and pay close attention to detail, while also looking for ways to improve processes and make things more efficient. You are responsive, practical, and focused on delivering a strong employee experience.

You’re comfortable interacting with employees, leaders, and vendors, and can explain information clearly and professionally.
