BCIT’s
School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a
regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty, Security Systems Technician. BCIT is one of the leading Security System Technician Training in North America. The program is delivered by a dynamic, fast-growing, team oriented department. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruction to entry level 28 week program, and/or part-time/industry service students
- Preparing and presenting classroom lectures
- Shop and lab instruction
- Instructional curriculum development and evaluation
- Administrative responsibilities, including examination marking, and student evaluation
- Curriculum maintenance and program enhancement
- Administrative processes required to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver training Input into development of modifications to workshop and instructional areas.
- Other duties directly related to the instruction of trades and vocational programs;
- Working collectively with the Electrical Trades Chief Instructor
The position is not just about teaching electrical concepts
. It also requires a person willing to:
- Motivate students to learn,
- Teach employability skills and assist with time management, and
- Spend the extra effort with students who are struggling, and challenge the students who are excelling.
- A commitment to teaching excellence and preparation of outstanding graduates is foremost.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate of Qualification for Security Systems Technician
- Minimum of five years recent work experience in the Security Alarm field as an installer or technician; preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in current Central Station monitoring technology
- Previous supervisory or teaching experience is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to instruct the curriculum
- Effective interpersonal skills and a strong desire to teach
- An excellent command of the English language, both written and oral
- Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma Program would be an asset
- Formal training and/or recent relevant experience in Information Technology and IP-based security systems
