Role
Research pitch and develop content in line with news programs mandates and corporate standards and policies.
Key Tasks:
- Keep up with current events and build a network of contacts aligned with the program mandate.
- Maintain and update the upcoming-events calendar and contact database.
- Evaluate potential story topics. Attend story meetings. Suggest story ideas/angles and potential guests. Help draft scripts for reports as assigned.
- Research gather evaluate and vet all information for covered stories. Select relevant text audio and visual materials. As required select and clip audio/video segments. Provide context/data for accompanying graphics.
- Identify and if necessary select interviewees. Conduct pre-interviews. Prepare interview question lines and scripts.
- Prepare and present written and oral research briefs. Draft copy for the host. Follow up continuously with reporters and the host throughout production and live broadcasts.
- Provide logistical support for shoots (itinerary schedule locations authorizations etc.) and interviews (guests arrival time fees parking etc.). Brief guests correspondents and panellists on the programs content and rundown.
- Create maintain and update research files on news and current affairs topics.
- When requested conduct interviews and present your research findings on air. As required field-produce shoots and edit clips for television or perform basic recording and editing tasks for radio.
- Participate in investigative journalism. Execute special research projects.
- Monitor moderate and respond to audience feedback and comments as required.
- Alert the newsroom immediately to any breaking news opportunities.
- Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
This role requires full-time on-site presence.
Your profile:
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent.
- Two (2) years journalism experience or equivalent.
Skills:
- Strong general knowledge.
- Excellent knowledge of current events.
- Fluency in the working language: French.
- Strong proficiency in the other official language is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of research tools and techniques.
- Understanding of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.
