Job description

Can you see yourself thriving in a role that challenges you and lets you make a real impact? Do you enjoy applying your Health Physics (HP) expertise to real-world technical work? Have you ever found yourself reviewing plans or procedures and thinking about how to make them stronger, safer, and more effective? Do you want a role where you can provide meaningful oversight in the field and support teams doing important work?

If this sounds like you, you might be exactly who we're looking for. Our Port Hope location is seeking a Health Physicist to provide Health Physics and Radiation Protection (RP) support to the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Management Office. This is an opportunity to bring your technical knowledge, problem‑solving skills, and passion for safety to a team that truly values your expertise.

What will you be doing!

  • Documenting, forecasting, analyzing, investigating, and interpreting moderately complex results and providing recommendations to project teams and/or more senior staff.
  • Performing moderately complex radiological safety assessments.
  • Assisting in documenting radiological work plans.
  • Assisting in the delivery of RP Training for CNL staff members and sub‑contractors.
  • Leading accident investigations and workplace inspections.
  • Advising staff on RP requirements in their respective work areas.
  • Ensuring both Port Granby and Port Hope sites are compliant with the requirements of the RP Plan and CNL’s Corporate Radiation Protection program.
  • Supporting audits, oversight and other regulatory obligations and ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • University Degree in Health Physics or an Honours Degree in Science or Engineering with post‑graduate studies and/or experience in Health Physics or related discipline.
  • Experience
    • 2 years (24 months) of experience as an operational Health Physicist in a related field is preferred.
    • Experience using Microsoft computer software and databases.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • A valid Ontario class “G” (or equivalent) driver’s license.
    • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of radiological protection standards.
    • Understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment, and techniques, both in theory and practice.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to make decisions based on established requirements, procedures and practices.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able and willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to work in a construction environment with the potential for uneven footing on various surfaces (soil, mud, gravel, and pavement).
  • Must be able to wear standard and specialized Personal Protective equipment (once trained to do so) including CSA‑approved hard hat, safety glasses, footwear, Tyvek Suits, and full and half‑faced respiratory protection.

Why CNL?

Does working with a team across Canada to advance nuclear science and technology for a clean and secure world speak to you? We're reinventing ourselves to be the pacesetters so we can lead the charge in solving the problems that matter, like building the next generation of clean nuclear and hydrogen energy solutions, developing new and better‑targeted cancer treatments, and continuing to lead the world in environmental remediation.

We offer a complete total rewards package :

  • Paid time off (vacation, sick, floater & personal)
  • Benefits effective day one, that’s right, no waiting period
  • Tuition support
  • and a pension!

Do Our Priorities Resonate with You?

  • Clean energy for today and tomorrow.
  • Restore and protect the Environment.
  • Contribute to the health of Canadians.

Location:

CNL's Historic Waste Program Management Office is in Port Hope, Ontario's beautiful and historic community. Roughly 100 km east of Toronto, it is still close enough to the “Big City” without all the hassle of being in the “Big City.” As a leader in environmental remediation at nuclear and radiologically contaminated sites, CNL is implementing the Port Hope Area Initiative on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. The cleanup of historic Low‑Level Radioactive Waste by CNL in Port Hope and Port Granby in Ontario demonstrates Canada’s commitment to the safe, long‑term storage and management of nuclear waste.

CNL is committed to providing an atmosphere free from barriers that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion in achieving our mission. CNL welcomes and celebrates employees, stakeholders, and partners of all racial, cultural, and ethnic identities. Please read here for more on our DE&I Commitment.

CNL also supports a workplace environment and corporate culture built on our Core Values: Respect, Teamwork, Accountability, Safety, Integrity, and Excellence. These values encourage equitable employment practices and career prospects, including accommodations for all employees.

CNL is committed to being an equal‑opportunity employer. If you require accommodation measures during any phase of the hiring process, please indicate via our ATS when applying. All information received regarding accommodation requests will be kept confidential.

CNL respectfully acknowledges that the Historic Waste Program Management Office and the Port Hope Area Initiative projects are situated on the treaty lands of the Williams Treaties First Nations, specifically the Gunshot Treaty signed with the Mississauga First Nations of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Scugog Island.
