Salary Details

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.05/Hr. - CAD $51.26/Hr.

Job Summary

Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice within a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Medical Imaging department, works in a team-based environment and is responsible for the clinical education and training of students and staff in the designated modality (i.e. Computed Tomography, General Procedures, Mammography or Interventional) for a majority of the time. Collaborates with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to identify, coordinate and lead education and training activities for students and staff across VCH. Duties include developing educational materials, providing education, training, evaluations, and maintaining records. Performs procedures as required. Provides training in the designated MI modality including leading knowledge transfer of best practice evidence, modifying techniques, assisting with the development of new clinical practices and providing staff with information on new or changed MI procedures and practices. Gathers information for ongoing improvement and demonstrates expertise and leadership of MI services. Maintains and updates own knowledge of clinical and professional practice including hands‑on clinical competencies by working directly with patients, clients and residents. The role requires travel to various locations within the Lower Mainland including rural sites.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologist (CAMRT) or other recognized registration body.
  • Completion of an approved accredited diploma program in Medical Radiation Technology in the designated medical imaging modality.
  • Five (5) years’ recent related medical imaging experience in the designated medical imaging modality (i.e. Interventional Radiology, Fluoroscopy, General Procedures, CT and/or Mammography) including one (1) year recent experience in a supervisory and/or teaching role supplemented with successful completion of recognized clinical education/instruction courses, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current CPR Level C Certification.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for business‑related purposes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the theory and practice of area of expertise for procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work procedures with imaging equipment and radiation safety principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop education and training materials, assignments, examinations, and competency assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to educate, train, orient, assess, mentor, and coach staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, students, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement training plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and apply research methodology to practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement effective change, while working with a broad range of stakeholder which may include presentation, facilitation, supervision and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence‑based practice related to designated modalities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma) within a healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems, i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
