The OHA’s goal is to serve and actively support its diverse membership. We are committed to leadership and excellence by providing industry-leading guidance and advice to our members.

The OHA is looking for an energetic professional with outstanding communication skills. You will play a senior role in the coordination of central collective bargaining with the major hospital unions. You have a solid understanding of labour relations and will provide leadership and guidance to member hospitals on labour relation matters.

You are a great listener and your communication style, energy and self‑confidence motivates people to work with you. You thrive in a fast‑paced environment, can handle multiple projects simultaneously and you have a strong sense of accountability for your work and the service that you and your team provide to your colleagues, the organization, and stakeholders.

The Position

The Assistant Consultant and Costing Analyst will provide timely research and analysis to support collective bargaining and play a role in the coordination of central collective bargaining with the major hospital unions and assist in the administration of centrally negotiated collective agreements. You have an understanding of labour relations, including economic indicators, costing of collective agreement amendments, and analysis of bargaining settlement trends, and will provide support to Employee Relations Consultants in a highly integrated team environment dedicated to providing expert advice and guidance to member hospitals on labour relation matters. This position will provide the successful candidate with an excellent foundation for progression to more advanced roles within the labour relations field.

Responsibilities

  • Providing research and analytical support in the area of collective bargaining, including the development of employee compensation costing models and writing arbitration briefs.
  • Assisting in the preparation and development of collective bargaining reports.
  • Assisting in the planning process in preparation for bargaining, including participation in policy formulation and objective setting with hospitals and negotiating teams.
  • Develop OHA surveys and models to assist central bargaining committees throughout the bargaining process.
  • Participating in central bargaining as a team member.
  • Liaising with research staff on issues requiring environmental scans, surveys or general data collection and analysis.
  • Researching general labour relations topics and issues and providing analysis and interpretation to assist with the administration of centrally negotiated collective agreement provisions.
  • Assisting the Consultants to update reference manuals and search engines.
  • Obtaining, analyzing and integrating quantitative and qualitative information on collective bargaining issues and solutions within Ontario and other jurisdictions.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate must possess the following:

  • A University degree in Economics, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline combined with at least 3 years related experience preferably in the hospital‑sector.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in conducting analyses, knowledge of various employee compensation components (salary, benefits, pension, etc.), and interpretation and integration of information.
  • Possess excellent research and analytical skills and strong computer skills particularly with word processing, spreadsheets and database development.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. You also have the ability to work well in a team environment and with a wide range of professionals from the health care sector and are able to work under pressure and within multiple deadlines.

The ideal candidate might be described as dynamic, positive, collaborative, persuasive, resilient, driven, results‑oriented, and has a sense of humour.

If you’re excited about working at the OHA but your past experience doesn’t quite align with every qualification of this posting, we encourage you to apply. You just might be the right candidate for this or other roles. We are always looking for great talent to join our team.
